Video: Security Guard Fails to Contain Overzealous Football Fans

Rushing the field after a successful game is a time-honored tradition in college football. Ole Miss football fans got to celebrate the Rebels' victory over the LSU Tigers over the weekend by storming the field after the clock ran out. Of course, it's discouraged and sometimes illegal to do such a thing, though that never stops overzealous fans.

A security guard at Ole Miss' Vaught-Hemingway Stadium found himself face-to-face with throngs of celebrating college football fans as they jumped from their seats and onto the field. Video of the incident shows the guard trying to stop people from running, but he's only one person, and thus didn't have much success.

Things took a slightly violent turn in the seconds after fans began rushing the field. The security guard pushed a woman in her face, causing her to lose her balance and fall onto the grass. Meanwhile, one fan recorded himself as he ran on the field and was promptly thrown to the ground by LSU player Jacobian Guillory.

The fans' behavior led Ole Miss to be slapped with a $100,000 fine from the SEC for the school's first violation of the conference's access to competition policy. The rules state that fines are paid to the opposing school when the games are part of a conference matchup, so LSU will be the one to see that money. If the same thing happens again, Ole Miss would have to deal with $250,000 and $500,000 fines, respectively.

Winning sometimes comes with a price, but getting to run onto the field is priceless.
