Viral List Names Places Women 'Absolutely Refuse' to Go on a First Date

First date etiquette continues to be a perplexing subject for many singles, particularly in the modern slog of dating apps. As such, a list that's been making the rounds on the internet detailing 28 places women "absolutely refuse" to go on a first date is certainly eliciting opinions from both men and women alike.

First of all, it's important to note that it's unclear where the list originated from or how it arrived at its findings. There doesn't seem to be any scientific methodology involved, which is besides the point given the ensuing discourse. However, it does seem likely, given its proximity at the top spot at the list, that a recent TikTok of a woman refusing to get out of her date's car at the Cheesecake Factory (which may or may not have been staged) may have provided inspiration.

In the four top spots behind Cheesecake Factory are casual dining chain restaurants Applebee's, Chili's, Chipotle, and Olive Garden; as well as Red Lobster further down the list. While most women probably would prefer to be taken somewhere a little nicer on a first date, in this economy, quite understandably not everyone can afford Michelin-star dining.

On then other hand, it would probably be the consensus of most men and women that places like Buffalo Wild Wings, Wingstop, Denny's, IHOP, and Waffle House—all of which fall somewhere on the list—would be unacceptable. Likewise, most women would likely nix a few of the spot for safety reasons alone, such as at a date's house and "somewhere that requires a long drive." And unless you're Cousin Greg from Succession, a family function is not an appropriate place to bring a first date.

Other inclusions make less sense, including a Starbucks or coffee date, meeting at a bar for a drink, or going to the movies or a sporting event, as those have all been popular first date activities since basically as long as modern courtship has existed.

"Where tf we supposed to go then??? The moon?" one X, formerly Twitter user quite understandably wondered, while another joked that it "looks like we’re going to Home Depot so she can build a new personality."
