Video: Golfer Hilariously Trolled by Las Vegas Sphere's Emoji Face

Since making its splashy debut over the summer, the Las Vegas Sphere at the Venetian Resort is already on a fast track to become one of the city's most popular attractions. The outer shell of the 366-foot-high, 516-foot-wide dome is the world's largest LED screen, and has already been used to project images like a giant eyeball, jack-o'-lantern, planets, and interactive emoji face.

However, it's perhaps the latter that has gotten the most attention so far, as the hulking, omnipresent yellow face gazes over Vegas while cycling through a range of expressions. Given that the giant emoji is kind of freaking people out as it is, imagine trying to concentrate on your golf game while the thing is peering at you judgmentally.

For guests of the nearby Wynn Golf Club, that seems to be unavoidable now. Sports podcaster Joseph Demare, otherwise known as "Joey Cold Cuts," captured his own interaction with the Sphere's emoji animation while hitting the links this week. "You know you suck when even the [Sphere] is trolling you after your tee shot," Demare wrote on Instagram.

The video has since been picked up by the Las Vegas Locally social media account, where it has been viewed nearly 1.5 million times. "Wynn Golf Club is finally worth the $700 greens fee," the account quipped.

But if the outside of the Sphere is a sight to behold, the inside of the 18,600-seat venue is even more impressive. The 160,000-square-foot, wraparound interior screen projects images in 16K, while state-of-the-art speakers deliver exceptional audio that allows visitors to actually feel the sound vibrations from their seats.

The venue kicked off its programming last month with the start of a 25-show U2 residency that runs through mid-December. On off nights, visitors can take in award-winning director Darren Aronofsky's specially commissioned film, Postcard From Earth, which was intended to demonstrate the venue's technology to full capacity.
