While the retail industry has been hit hard by the uncertainty over the White House tariffs, there appears to be a bright spot on the horizon for one retailer.
Bob's Discount Furniture is bucking the retail trend of closing brick-and-mortar stores with some significant growth in 2025. The company announced the news in an April 2025 press release, sharing that they will be opening "20 new stores in 2025" with a first-time presence in Vermont and North Carolina.
“We’re excited to bring our on-trend assortment of furniture, mattresses, and home accents at everyday low prices to new customers and markets,” said Ramesh Murthy, Chief Operating Officer at Bob’s Discount Furniture in a statement. “Adding new territories also allows us to make a local impact on more communities by generating jobs and providing support to local schools and nonprofits, things that have been core to Bob’s since our founding over 30 years ago.”
The decision to open in two new states is a source of pride for the company too. “Bob’s has built a loyal customer base throughout New England, and opening a store in Vermont allows us to strengthen our connection with a region that has supported our brand for years," Murthy added. "In North Carolina, we believe that the growing population and rich furniture market will be a great fit for our value-driven approach to furniture shopping.”
Bob's Discount Furniture opened its first store in Newington, CT in 1991. The company's mission is to give consumers a "low-pressure, no-gimmick approach to furniture shopping." They now have over 190 stores across the U.S. and hope to expand into the Southeast market in the future.
