Mike Williams, a former wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Buffalo Bills between 2010 and 2014, has passed away, his agent confirmed to reporter Ian Rapoport today. He was 36 years old.
Williams has spent the last several weeks on life support after a tragic accident he sustained while working on a construction site in the Tampa Bay area. According to The Tampa Bay Times, he was hospitalized on September 1 and put on a ventilator two days later after a steel beam fell on his head on August 21. A GoFundMe set up by his family said that the injury escalated over the course of several weeks, leading to his hospitalization. He never regained consciousness after being rushed to the ICU and later passed away.
Williams played 63 career games over five seasons, primarily with the Buccaneers. He finished his career with one season with the Buffalo Bills. His NFL career totaled 223 catches for 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns.
This is a developing story. Check back later for more information.
