Samuel Adams Wants to Help You Bail on Summer Plans

Is there anything that puts a crimp on the summer as much as unwanted social obligations? Weekends are precious, so if you'd rather be spending them kicking back with a cold one instead of attending that baby shower or family picnic, then Samuel Adams has got your back.

Just in time for summer, the decades-old craft brewer is introducing a new "I CAN't" Can to help drinkers ditch their plans. The launch comes in conjunction with an online survey by Harris Poll that found 80 percent of Americans have obligations on their calendar they would prefer to ditch this summer, but 22 percent struggle to come up with a believable excuse to bail.

Similar to a Magic 8 Ball, you simply shake the mock can and an excuse will magically appear at the top. The limited edition can has already proven to be so popular that a first drop almost immediately sold out of the Sam Adams Store, but you can check back for a second drop later this month.

But if you can't score an I CAN't Can, Samuel Adams has also released a Ditch Days Variety Pack, which features fan-favorites Summer Ale and Porch Rocker alongside new exclusives to the variety pack, Summer Adventure Lager and Take-A-Day IPA.

"Summer should be the season of fun, not obligations," said Samuel Adams head of brand Lauren Price in a press release. "We created the 'I CAN't' Can as a lighthearted way to help drinkers take a well-deserved break from some of life's less desirable occasions and return to what they love most - cracking open a cold one. Next time an unwanted obligation is part of the plan, just reach for the 'I CAN't' Can."

As far as which plans Americans would like to ditch most, the survey found that 36 percent want to bail on yard work, 30 percent want to ditch work, and 26 percent want to get out of moving or helping someone else move. Likewise, nearly half of Americans (49 percent) say summer is a good season to prioritize vacations over obligations, compared to spring, summer, and fall.

That's something we can all drink to.
