World's Most Expensive Dog Is Half Wolf—and Costs More Than $5.7 Million

While #AdoptDontShop is the mantra for many pet lovers, some people just know what they want. And in the case of Bengaluru, India-based dog breeder S. Sathish, what he apparently wanted was to spend more than $5 million to own the world’s rarest “wolfdog.”

As The Standard reports, Sathish just forked over £4.4million (more than $5.7 million) to become the proud dog dad to Cadabomb Okami, a unique pup who is a cross between a wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd, a large, livestock guardian pooch that is native to the Caucasus Mountains of Southern Russia.

The 8-month-old pup, who is stated to be the only dog of its kind, was bred in the United States. “He is an extremely rare breed of dog and looks exactly like a wolf,” Sathish said of his newest pet, who he describes as “extraordinary.”

“This breed has not been sold in the world before,” Sathish continued. “I spent 500 million rupees on buying this pup because I am fond of dogs and like to own unique dogs and introduce them to India.”

Dogs tend to be pack animals, and Okami certainly won’t be lacking in potential playmates in his new home. According to The Standard, Sathish—who is president of the Indian Dog Breeders Association—owns more than 150 different breeds of dog. And while he is clearly a canine enthusiast, Sathish also sees his dogs as smart investments.

“I spent money on these dogs because they are rare,” he says. “Besides, I get enough money because people are always curious to see them.” According to The Daily Mail, Sathish can make anywhere between $2,500 and $12,000 just for showing off his dogs at various events. At those rates, it will only take about 415 appearances for Sathish to break even on Okami.
