Browns True Thoughts on Shedeur Sanders Revealed After NFL Draft Meeting

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is no stranger to criticism, and it doesn't appear anything being said ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft is weighing too heavily on him.

With Sanders in the spotlight more than any NFL quarterback prospect in recent memory, it's led to conflicting rumors about the budding star. Longtime NFL reporter Josina Anderson first reported that one team's quarterbacks coach said Sanders came off as "brash" and "arrogant."

This was followed by NBC Sports' Matthew Berry reporting that two people from different teams called the quarterback "unprofessional" and "disinterested" during their meetings.

Numerous analysts and media members have come to the defense of Sanders, and other teams have also offered positive reviews of the expected top-10 pick.

One of those teams is the Cleveland Browns.

Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot revealed the Browns' thoughts on Sanders following one-on-one meetings at the East-West Shrine Bowl and 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

As Cabot reported, the Browns specifically left the meeting "impressed" with Sanders and "didn't find him to be arrogant or brash."

"The Browns first met with Sanders one-on-one at the East-West Shrine Bowl in January and came away impressed. They didn’t find him to be arrogant or brash, but confident and engaging," Cabot explained.

"They liked all of the good things his Hall of Fame dad poured him into him, but appreciated that he’s his own man. He exhibited the excellent leadership qualities they’re looking for in a quarterback, as did Ward, whom they also like a lot."

Arguably the most interesting tidbit from Cabot on how the Browns viewed Sanders referenced a report head coach Kevin Stefanski was reportedly given about the quarterback.

This came from former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur, who was Sanders' offensive coordinator over the past two years at Colorado.

Per Cabot:

"They also formally interviewed Sanders at the Combine -- where neither he nor Ward worked out -- and cemented what they already knew: that Sanders has what it takes to lead the franchise if they draft him.

"Kevin Stefanski also received a glowing report on him from his former Vikings colleague Pat Shurmur, the former Browns head coach who spent the past two years as Sanders’ OC at Colorado."

The Browns currently hold the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. If Sanders is their preferred selection, the recent buzz signaling that multiple teams have interest in trading up to No. 1 for Miami quarterback Cam Ward could set up an ideal scenario for Cleveland.

If Ward does come off the board at No. 1 overall, it would make the Browns' decision one of the biggest storylines of the draft. And if they opt to select Sanders, it would effectively launch the end of the Deshaun Watson era in Cleveland.
