Study Names the Best Cities, Towns for Singles in 2024

Unmarried and looking to settle down? Or single and ready to mingle? A new study has named the best cities for singles in the United States. And you won't find New York City or Los Angeles on the list, as many of the locations are off the beaten path.

The study, which was conducted by Ownerly, a digital real estate platform that provides insight into property values, came up with its findings by evaluating metrics that are most important to "unmarried individuals seeking a vibrant lifestyle." It analyzed factors such as overall size of the single population, income growth, housing or rent affordability, the availability of social venues, male-to-female ratio, and the median age of residents.

Cities with declining single populations and those lacking basic lifestyle amenities were filtered out, for a curated list boasting a composite of features attractive to singles such as affordability, lifestyle amenities, and social activities.

Ranking in first place was Swannanoa, NC, which is described as a "rural haven" with significant growth in its single demographic and a generally outstanding quality of life, based on metrics such as green spaces, crime, and cost of living.

The so-called "micropolitan" city of Albertville, MN was ranked second, referring to places that have "a perfect blend of small-town comfort and urban convenience." Factors that set Albertville apart were economic vitality, strong job market, and an alluring suburban lifestyle.

Another micropolitan city, Grandview Heights, OH, came in third, thanks to a superior education system, robust economy, and a multitude of local amenities; while the picturesque Grantsville, UT ranked fourth with an emphasis on safety and a wide array of outdoor activities. Rounding out the top five was Waterville, OH, which is bursting with rural charm and an education system that outperforms the national average.
