Calvin Harris Swears by This Strange Airplane Snack to Beat Jet Lag

As a DJ and producer, Calvin Harris is constantly on the go, and jetting back and forth between cities is part of his regular routine. Traveling around the world isn't easy on the body clock, and overcoming jet lag can be a challenge for anyone, even if you're doing it all the time.

Luckily, the Scottish DJ has found a solution that works for him—and tides him over on the plane in the process. While some people might bring their own snacks on flights like a bag of chips or some fruit, Harris cracks open a half dozen eggs in his seat.

Harris stopped by The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on March 2 and recounted a recent experience on a flight that left the people around him shocked. "I was on a British Airways flight only a couple of weeks ago and the air hostess told me she’d never seen anybody crack eggs and pour them into their mouth in their seat before," he said. "But that was me. That’s what I do."

He explained that he doesn't empty all the contents of every egg into his mouth, and the benefits of beating jet lag he claims it brings. "I like to get rid of the white, so I just do the raw yolk," he said. "I find it gets rid of the jet lag."

Surprisingly, the fragile cargo has prompted a security investigation at the airport. "You just stick them in your bag," he said. "I’m surprised they get through security because for me, that’s liquid. But it’s never, ever been flagged."

While studies haven't been conducted to specifically tie egg yolks to an easier time fighting jet lag, science has supported the health benefits of yolks for some time. Yolks are high in nutrients like vitamin A, D, E, K, B1, B2, B5, B6, B9, and B12; B12 in particular is often a go-to supplement for higher energy levels, which perhaps Harris feels helps him bounce back from jet lag quicker.
