Patrick Mahomes Jr. has had another successful season with the Kansas City Chiefs and is preparing for the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 11. But just days before the big game, Mahomes' father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., made headlines of his own.
Mahomes Sr. was arrested in Tyler, TX on a DWI charge on Feb. 3. It's the third time he's faced such a charge; he most recently got his second DWI in 2018 and served 40 days in jail over weekends in 2019 and 2020. His bond for the latest offense was set at $10,000.
Mahomes Jr. is already in Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII and was answering reporters' questions at Allegiant Stadium on Feb. 5. When one person asked him about his father's arrest over the weekend, he gave a respectful short response and insisted he didn't want to delve too deep into the topic.
"He's doing good," the star quarterback said. "I don't really want to get into it too much, but he's doing good for whatever the situation is."
When asked again about the arrest, Mahomes declined to say anything else about the subject. "It's a family matter," he reiterated, "so I'll just keep it to the family. And that's all I really have to say at this point."
Mahomes Sr. is no stranger to the sports world. The 53-year-old was a pitcher for 11 seasons of MLB with teams like the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs. Clearly, being an accomplished athlete is in the family's genes.

For now, Mahomes Jr. is focusing on the big game on Sunday. And despite already having two rings and several Super Bowl appearances in recent years, it never gets any easier for the Chiefs star.
"You always have nerves going into the Super Bowl," he admitted to reporters, per The Associated Press. “You have to embrace those nerves. Now it’s about going out and playing the game.”
