Fast-food fans know that one protein has taken over the menu. While the chicken sandwich wars had restaurants jousting for supremacy, a new battle has emerged. Sonic stakes its claim to wrap dominance, both in value and flavor.
Quick service restaurants are infusing a taste of nostalgia into their recent menu releases. From bringing back favorite meals to infusing iconic flavors into new dishes, people are hungry for this version of comforting food.
When McDonald’s announced the return of the Snack Wrap, people rejoiced. The simple idea of chicken tender nestled in that tortilla made them feel warm and fuzzy. Nostalgia is nice, but people want more from a quick service restaurant.
Sonic Drive-In wants to put flavor and value into that chicken wrap. Two new Crispy Tender Wraps join FUN.99 Menu, priced at $1.99. They are Cheesy Baja Crispy Tender Wrap and Honey Chipotle Crispy Tender Wrap.

The Cheesy Baja Crispy Tender Wrap features the restaurant’s zesty baja sauce. The chicken tenders are combined with lettuce, tomato and cheese. It is fairly straightforward.
The Honey Chipotle Crispy Tender Wrap jumps on the sweet and spicy trend. The honey chipotle aioli has just the right amount of heat without becoming too overwhelming.
Sonic’s choice to add its wraps to the $1.99 is smart. Given that McDonald’s sells its version for $2.99, the price advantage goes to America’s Drive-In. Value meals continue to drive consumers’ decisions.

Recently, Sonic has focused on value-forward menu items. Its FUN.99 Menu has more and new items, including the Original and Honey Chipotle Jr. Chicken Sandwiches, Soft Pretzel Twist and Small Cream Slushes.
What is next for Sonic? The brand alluded that more options would join this menu segment. What those food items would be are unclear.
For now, one thing is clear. Sonic takes the value battle in the chicken wrap wars.
