Pop superstar Taylor Swift and 1975 frontman Matty Healy only dated for a brief time in 2023, but old scars were brought back up this week thanks to Andy Cohen. Healy's mother joined Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday, July 24, where she shared her lingering feelings on her son's ex-girlfriend.

“Not being her mother-in-law is a role that I’m glad that I lost,” said Healy's mother, Denise Welch, an English actress best known for her longstanding role on British soap opera Coronation Street. "Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode."
More than once Welch insinuates that she was instructed not to discuss the prior relationship. "Listen," she says later in the conversation, "you’re not allowed to say anything and then she writes a whole album about it."
The interaction began when Cohen asked Welch about her feelings on Swift's album The Tortured Poets Department, which many believe is at least partially written about the singer's relationship with Healy. Cohen looks at first taken aback by Welch's comments, to which she replies, "Not that I have anything against her at all, it was tricky."
Healy and Swift had reportedly been friends since around 2014, but only started dating in 2023 after Swift broke up with her longtime boyfriend, actor Joe Alwyn. The relationship lasted only around two months and was plagued with controversies, including Healy making racist comments about rapper Ice Spice.

Since then, both Healy and Swift have moved on. Healy is currently engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel, while Swift is famously in a relationship with Kansas City Chief's star Travis Kelce.
