Shane Gillis, the 37-year-old comedian, doesn't change up his look very often. The Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania native is typically rocking black, with short hair and a mustache. You'll often see him rocking an Eagles or Phillies hat, too.
But Gillis, who also does acting work, can change up his look on the screen. Gillis is the star of Netflix's Tires, a comedy about an auto repair chain that needs to be turned around. He's also hosted NBC's Saturday Night Live multiple times since getting fired by the late-night sketch show in 2019.
Gillis is set to have a role in the upcoming John Madden biopic, too. The film, written and directed by David O. Russell, will star Nicolas Cage as the legendary NFL head coach and announcer, with Christian Bale playing the iconic Al Davis. Gillis will have a role in the film, too.
The popular comedian and podcast host will reportedly be playing an original character in the movie.
Photos of Gillis rocking an unrecognizable hairstyle and look went viral on social media this week.
DEADLINE had more on his part in the movie:
Shane Gillis has joined the cast of the Amazon MGM Studios film Madden. He will play an original character, one close to the Madden clan.
David O. Russell is directing the film, which stars Nicolas Cage as John Madden, Christian Bale as Al Davis, John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis. Production is currently underway.
Russell is directing a script he wrote, following an earlier version by Cambron Clark. Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing alongside Jonathan Shukat, Russell, Matthew Budman and Colin Wilson. Escape Artists’ David Bloomfield will executive produce alongside SMAC Entertainment’s Michael Strahan and Constance Schwartz-Morini. The film is produced in association with Skydance Sports.
The film will reportedly follow Madden's career as both a coach and an announcer - and the voice of the iconic Madden NFL video game series.
Gillis, who grew up in Pennsylvania, played college football. He attended Trinity High School in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania and he played on the school's football team as an offensive tackle. He was recruited to play at West Point, but quickly transferred out. Gillis ended up landing at Elon in North Carolina, before leaving the school.
The comedian will be getting back to his football roots in the new Madden film.
