A beloved local seafood restaurant in Norfolk, Virginia closed for good this weekend after more than two decades in business.
456 Fish, which opened on Nov. 23, 2003, announced on its official website that was shutting down. Saturday was the restaurant's final day of operation.
"It is with heavy hearts that we share our decision to close 456 Fish. Our last day of service is Saturday, July 12th," the message reads. "For over 20 years, we’ve been humbled and honored to serve this incredible community. Your laughter, celebrations, and daily moments have filled our tables with joy and purpose.
"The mission of 456 Fish has always been to provide each guest with a memorable dining experience through unparalleled hospitality and delicious cuisine. Though we face a sorrowful goodbye, we also celebrate the countless memories we’ve made together. From first dates to proposals, family meals, epic celebrations and all of those pre-show dinners, your moments are woven into the heart of our story."
456 Fish was one of five businesses that made up RZ Restaurants group in Norfolk. The other four establishments--219 Bistro, Byrd & Baldwin Bros. Steakhouse, Leone’s, and Norfolk Seafood Co.--will remain open.
"We will look to see you at one of our sister restaurants; enjoying an epic steak at Byrd & Baldwin Bros., sipping a cocktail on the patio at 219 Bistro, slurping a freshly shucked oyster at Norfolk Seafood Co. or indulging on house-made lasagna at Leone’s," 456 Fish said in its statement. "Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for allowing us to be part of your lives."
No word has been reported on why 456 is closing, or what will take over its place at 456 Granby Street.
Among the items 456 Fish served during its tenure were crab cakes, spicy tuna, rockfish Florentine, fried oysters, scallop carbonara and a variety of different sushi.
