Upstart Soda Brand Outselling Coke and Pepsi at Some Stores

Soda brands like Coca-Cola and Pepsi have long been staples of American culture from the grocery store to the ballpark. As more people in recent years have opted for alternative options like diet sodas or other flavored drinks, some of these brands have started eating into Coke and Pepsi's market share. One of them is even outselling them in some places.

Olipop was founded in 2018 and in just a few short years quickly become a go-to choice for many soda drinkers. With prebiotics, fiber, natural ingredients, and botanical extracts designed to support gut health, as well as a lower sugar content compared to traditional sodas, it's an attractive option for those looking to enjoy a fizzy drink while keeping their health in mind.

According to a recent Fox Business report, Olipop has become so popular in recent years that it's become the number one best-selling soda brand at several grocery stores across the country. It's currently shaping up to bring in half a billion dollars in 2024, doubling its sales from last year.

The recent success can partially be attributed to its new Barbie Peaches & Cream collaboration that hit shelves in May. It's been such an in-demand product that it started moving more units than one popular kitchen item. "At some of our retail partners, our Barbie flavor was outselling eggs," CEO and co-founder Ben Goodwin told Fox Business. "Clearly, people responded well to it."

It's not the only exciting collaboration Olipop has done, as Goodwin promised some "very cool" joint ventures in the next year. Just the fact that it's competing with—and sometimes outdoing—industry heavy-hitters like Coke and Pepsi is an accomplishment in itself.

"The fact that folks are actually willing to try a brand like ours and fall in love with it and make that switch in many cases, it’s something I take pretty seriously," Goodwin said. "It's probably not the easiest choice for a lot of people to move away from some of those legacy brands."

If you spot Olipop on the shelf the next time you're at the store, give it a try and see what you think.
