Delta Announces Major Money Saver for Long-Haul Flights

Delta Air Lines offers long-haul flights from the U.S. to locations all around the globe, and for some passengers, those trips are about to become a little less monotonous.

On Aug. 12, Delta announced it's bringing free Wi-Fi to more international flights as part of its ongoing expansion of the program across its entire fleet. According to a statement from the company, free streaming-quality connectivity is available on nearly 700 Delta planes, making up more than 90 percent of its domestic mainline fleet. By the end of this year, with several international routes slated to get online, most Delta customers regardless of destination will have free Wi-Fi in some form.

"As we continue to roll out fast, free Wi-Fi and the in-flight experiences it powers, we’re able to serve customers traveling both domestically and internationally in new, in-the-moment ways," Delta customer experience design senior vice president Ranjan Goswami said. "The scale at which we’re bringing free Wi-Fi to customers is unmatched in the airline industry, and it’s a testament to the incredible efforts of Delta teams across the business that have expertly navigated an extremely complex rollout."

Starting this month, Delta flights to and from the U.K., Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and Italy will have free Wi-Fi available to customers. Next month, that connectivity will be available on Delta flights to and from Iceland, Ireland, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland

In October, flights to South America and Hawaii will be taken care of with free Wi-Fi to and from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Free Wi-Fi will come to Delta's West African flights to and from Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal in December 2024 and January 2025. By the end of next year, free Wi-Fi should be on flights to and from Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa

While many international Delta flights currently have Wi-Fi available, it is typically for a charge that varies based on flight length and geography. New satellite antennas the company is equipping its planes with will change that.

Those brutal international flights will surely be a little easier to endure with free access to your Netflix account.
