REI is in the middle of a gargantuan Labor Day sale that's slashing prices on everything from bestselling sleeping pads and other camping gear to travel accessories and even rain jackets just ahead of fall. There is also a ton of footwear on sale, including the site's No. 1 bestselling hiking shoes from Altra that are surging in popularity.
Altra's Lone Peak 8 Trail Running Shoes are rising to the top of REI's most popular deals list right now while they're on sale for $105—25% off the normal $140 price. These shoes have earned over 100 five-star ratings from shoppers who say they're "excellent" for gripping trails, grass, and dirt, whether you're using them for running or hiking. They're on sale in each of the six available colors, but the blue and gray have the best sizes left, ranging from 7 to 14 with wide widths available—but that might not last much longer.

These trail runners aren't like most others because they swap traditional knit mesh uppers for a more durable ripstop mesh that's more durable, quick-drying, and much easier to clean. That means you don't have to worry about mucking them up in mud and dirt. These shoes also have a secret—they have a 0 mm drop inside, which means they promote your natural running or walking gait without the help of a declined heel-to-toe drop found in most other styles. That doesn't mean there isn't cushion, though—both the insoles and midsoles offer plenty of shock absorption and, when combined with the grippy outsoles, not even sharp rocks will slow you down.
Shoppers who step outside in Altra's Lone Peak 8s say they're super comfortable, even for those who need wide sizes. "I have very wide feet and very large feet," a shopper began. "The wide toe box provides exceptional comfort without causing any toe rubs or calluses…I'll wear the shoes for about 3 months or 300 miles, whichever comes first. They wear exceptionally well. I have tried multiple shoes—these are much better than Hoka, Brooks, and other so-called maximum-cushion wide shoes."
If you're looking to hit the trail comfortably and want to do right by your feet, it's worth trying Altra's Lone Peak 8, especially while they're on sale at REI. Make sure to grab a pair for yourself before Sept. 2, when the retailer's Labor Day sale ends.
