Matt Damon on Whether Jesse Plemons Is Really His Doppelgänger

Matt Damon has been working in Hollywood for over three decades, and throughout that time, the acclaimed actor has seen the rise of many young stars after him. Among them is Jesse Plemons, whom some fans have noted bears a striking resemblance to the Oscar-winning actor.

Plemons himself spoke about their looks and shared a story about the two of them working together many years ago in a June 2024 interview with Access Hollywood. At the turn of the century, Plemons was cast as a younger version of Damon's character in the 2000 film All the Pretty Horses.

"Aside from me playing him as a young boy when I was 11 or so, no, I haven’t seen him. I wonder how he feels about this," Plemons said of the doppelgänger claims. “I’m beyond flattered. Definitely flattered by the comparison but I’d be curious to hear his thoughts."

Damon himself weighed in on their similar looks in a July 29 interview with Access Hollywood, saying he "absolutely" sees the resemblance between them.

"I remember when he came to the set of All the Pretty Horses and the crew was freaking out," he recounted. "Like five people came up to me before I met him and said, 'You’re not gonna believe how much this kid looks like you.'"

They took a picture together when they met, though he wishes he still had it to see the two side by side.

"I couldn’t believe it. He looked more like me than I did when I was little," Damon said. "Like my little 11-year-old face did not look like it was going to [become me]. Like, he looked exactly like me. I was like, 'This is really weird.'"

Plemons' scene was ultimately cut from the movie, but the memories will last them both a lifetime.

As for whether the lookalikes will ever work together, Damon isn't closing the door. "I would love to do something with him," he stated plainly. "I think he’s great."

Plemons just starred opposite Oscar winner Emma Stone in Kinds of Kindness earlier this summer. Damon's latest movie The Instigators is out Aug. 2 on Apple TV+.
