Tinder launched its controversial $499-per-month Select tier on December 18, and so far, no one is terribly convinced it’s worth the money. Tinder announced the “high-end” service back in August. It allows users, added on an “invite only” basis, to increase the visibility of their profiles and send messages to those they haven’t matched with. It also shows them the most popular profiles in their area. The tier was created after “extensive tests and feedback,” according to Tinder’s chief product officer, Mark Van Ryswyk.
But Tinder users and others on social media remain uncertain whether a dating service is worth nearly $6,000 a year—or a cool $4,999 if you pay all at once. Isa Watson offered some cogent advice on X (formerly Twitter). “If you have $500/mo to spend on a ‘premium’ version of Tinder, why not just hire a local matchmaker at that point?”

Some raised their eyebrows at the company’s gall to introduce such an expensive option, and those willing to invest in Select. “There are better ways to spend $500 to get women,” one user opined.
Some simply had no patience for Select members. “Genuinely believe anyone paying that £500 a month Tinder subscription should automatically be put on a register,” user Holly wrote.

If you’re paying $500 a month for Tinder, you’re going to have just as much success as when you were paying $0 https://t.co/Uic28g3Ifc

I think you’re a loser to be on tinder firstly. But to then pay $500 for hopes of securing babes? https://t.co/SreR2Jiv08 pic.twitter.com/ZvYQoYiJra

X-user Andrii derided the premium tier as “the best way to hint that you have money.” Conor Mac, meanwhile, rounded up a handy list of 11 premium subscriptions one could obtain for the price of a single Tinder premium plan. According to Mac, you'd even have some change left over.

For the same monthly value, you could also get:
• Costco membership
• Gym membership
• Amazon Prime
• Netflix
• Spotify
• Disney+
• Koyfin Pro
• Hinge
• WSJ & FT
• ChatGPT
• YouTube Premium

Others felt the $499 price was perilously close to the $4.99 price point on Tinder’s lowest tier.

Many, however, expressed their condolences to those earnestly investing in Select.

It was practically impossible to find anyone brave enough to voice a positive opinion about Tinder Select. User @huhstreety nicely summed up the public discourse: “Tinder select gotta be the saddest thing I’ve seen. Who’s paying 500 dollars a month to find love?”
