Legendary Rock Band's Guitarist Dies at 65

Perry Bamonte, who was the guitarist and keyboardist for the legendary rock band The Cure, has died at age 65.

The band confirmed his death in a statement that was dated December 26, 2025, giving his name as Perry Archangelo Bamonte. "It is with enormous sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte," the band wrote on its website. Although classified as a rock band, The Cure crosses multiple musical genres.

"Fusing melody and melancholy, intensity and heartbreak, the Cure helped shape several musical genres, from goth to alternative, grunge to modern pop," the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame website says. "Mastermind Robert Smith pioneered a unique frontman persona, a combination of brooding honesty and theatricality, gender-fluid and brazenly genuine. While remaining ever enigmatic as they rose from obscurity to global fame, the Cure provided irresistible, wildly popular, timeless tunes for generations."

Perry Bamonte's Cause of Death Was Given Only as a 'Short Illness'

What was Bamonte's cause of death? How did he die? The band said only that Bamonte died "after a short illness at home over Christmas."

The band's statement gave tribute to the guitarist, calling him "quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative."

"Teddy was a warm-hearted and vital part of The Cure story," the statement says. "Looking After the band from 1984 through 1989, he became a full-time member of The Cure in 1990, playing guitar, six-string bass, and keyboard on the Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits, and The Cure albums, as well as performing more than 400 shows over 14 years," the band's statement continued.

"He rejoined The Cure in 2022, playing another 90 shows, some of the best in the band's history, culminating with The Show of a Lost World concert in London 1st November 2024," it adds. "Our thoughts and condolences are with all his family. He will be very greatly missed."

Fans also offered tribute. "His influence on the sonic landscape of alternative music was profound, and his unique presence during those era-defining years will be deeply missed," wrote a page on X. "Sad to hear this, the cure's sound won't be the same without him," wrote another.

Perry Bamonte Posted a Drawing Showing Music Legends in Heaven Together

Bamonte hadn't updated his public Facebook page for years. However, one of his last publicly visible Facebook posts was a share of a painting showing dead music artists, like Elvis Presley, together in heaven. "The Great Gig In The Sky," he wrote. His most recent visible post was for a guitar auction.

According to The New York Post, the band "now consists of founder Robert Smith and longtime members Simon Gallup and Jason Cooper."

Bamonte was born in London. He first "entered The Cure’s orbit in 1984 through his younger brother, who was working as the band’s tour manager at the time," The Post reported.

According to The Post, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame with The Cure and also played with the band "Love Amongst Ruin alongside Placebo’s Steve Hewitt and Julian Cope’s Donald Skinner."

Quince's 'Velvety Soft' Everyday Hoodies Are on Sale for $32, but Only for One Day

Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services.  If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Why We Love This Deal

If you’ve ever wanted to try Quince apparel, now is the time, as the brand is running its first-ever End of Year sale. The only catch is that it’s a tight one, ending Dec. 26. Quince rarely discounts its products because their pricing is already pared down, which makes this event, and any price drop on Quince gear, noteworthy. If there's one thing we're eyeing during this sale, it's this soft athletic hoodie—all colors are now only $32.

Quince's Flowknit Performance Hoodies are a rare 20% off, and they're the ideal pick for anyone seeking a performance-based layer that’s supremely soft, can handle both the gym and the couch, won’t shrink in the wash, and won’t break the bank. They come in eight colors, but sizes are already running low.

These are the kind of performance hoodies you can wear every day and practically live in, thanks to their simple, versatile, and well-made nature. The Flowknits are made from a solid recycled polyester-spandex fabric that gives them four-way stretch, moisture-wicking performance, and quick-drying comfort, among other benefits. These buttery-soft hoodies feel more like loungewear but are technical enough to withstand workouts, travel, or long days on the move. Details like thick drawstrings and a zippered kangaroo pocket push it beyond bargain-bin basics.

If you've never heard of Quince before, the brand is built around cutting out the middleman—no wholesale markups, no department store padding—so you’re paying closer to what the product actually costs to make. Hoodies with similar specs from big athletic brands, like Vuori, Lululemon, or Alo Yoga, regularly land in the $80 to $120 range, and that’s even before logos get involved. At $32, this sits squarely in the buy two (or three, or four) and don’t think twice category.

Because this is a one-day sale only and Quince produces in limited, tightly controlled batches, popular sizes tend to sell out fast, and restocks usually revert to full price. If you’ve been curious about Quince, this is about as low-risk an opportunity as you'll ever have to try it. Plus, the reviews alone will put your mind at ease.

Why This Stranger Things Character May Not Survive the Big Showdown

Thanks to a recent interview that the Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer did with Jimmy Fallon, fans of the hit Netflix series have been spiraling, thinking about the possibility that the beloved Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) has a doomed fate awaiting him.

On the episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the late-night host brought out Funko Pop action figures representing the characters of the sci-fi series and asked the brothers to hint what happens with each character by arranging them on his desk. Fans couldn’t help but notice that the figure representing Steve was placed on the edge of Fallon’s desk, and took that to mean Steve is likely a goner.

However, there are those Stranger Things fans who think the Duffer brothers are creating a diversion of sorts. While Steve may find himself in grave danger and may even have a brush with death, it’s another major character who likely meets a dramatic end. As someone in this camp of fans, allow me to propose that the character I strongly believe to be one that won’t survive the epic fight with Vecna.

Is Will Most Likely to Die?

Noah Schnapp of Stranger Things on a red carpet

(Photo by Gerald Matzka/Getty Images for Netflix)

Yep, you read correctly. Despite Will (Noah Schnapp) emerging in Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 as a powerhouse player, becoming a “sorcerer” and the ultimate tracker of Vecna,  I can’t help but think he’s about to have a hero’s death. After all, he’s the only one able to tap into the hive mind of Vecna and control the demogorgons (without even being near them). Despite all the power Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) possesses, she can’t even do that, meaning Will is arguably the most powerful person on the show.

Looking to the world of Marvel for a moment, fans will recall that Thanos was the villain of all villains in the Avengers cinematic series, and it took the death of the one and only Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), to defeat him. It’s not too far-fetched to believe that Will may face a similar future.

From a storyline perspective, Will dying to save his family and friends is poetic in the sense that they’ve given up so much and nearly lost their lives to save him more than once in five seasons. Additionally, now that Will is somewhat of a bad a**, his going out in a blaze of glory would be a great departure from being the show’s “weakest link.”

The Final Parts of 'Stranger Things' Stream on December 25 and December 31

Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 (episodes 5-7) premieres on December 25 at 5 pm PT on Netflix. Then on December 31, the big finale drops on Netflix and in select theaters.

What Time Does the Stock Market Close on Christmas Eve?

With the holidays upon us, people doom-scrolling at family gatherings, it's bound to happen that you'll want to check on your stocks. And make a trade, too.

With the holidays here, that also means that the stock market hours will change. On Christmas Eve, the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq are set to close at 1 p.m. ET.

The U.S. bond market stays open a little later on Christmas Eve. They will close at 2 p.m. ET.

The Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and bond markets will reopen on Dec. 26.

New Year's Eve and New Year's Hours

Expect a similar schedule on New Year's Eve, on Wednesday, Dec. 31, when the bond markets are slated to close early at 2 p.m. ET. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq, however, will operate their normal hours.

The hours will change again to start the new year, with the stock and bond markets closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026, to observe the New Year's Day holiday.

Wall Street Going 23/5?

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Nasdaq will file paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to "roll out round-the-clock trading of stocks, as it looks to capitalize on a global demand for U.S. equities."

According to the outlet, Nasdaq would remain open 23 hours a day, five days a week. The exchange company currently operates 16 hours a day, five days a week.

If Nasdaq gets approval, it would operate two trading sessions, "with the day session starting at 4 a.m. and ending at 8 p.m., followed by a one-hour break for maintenance, testing, and clearing of trades. The night session will kick off at 9 p.m. and end at 4 a.m. the following calendar day."

Researchers Find Evidence of 'Mysterious Mass Burial' Stemming from 'Horrible Event'

Archaeologists in Scotland have unearthed evidence of a “mysterious mass burial” dating back to the Bronze Age, which researchers say foretells a “horrible event” in the country’s history (per BBC).

Bronze Age Mass Grave Found in Scotland

The ancient burial mound, known as a Bronze Age barrow, was uncovered near Twentyshilling Wind Farm near Sanquhar in Dumfries and Galloway after excavations which took place throughout 2020 and 2021 by Guard Archaeology. Within were several urns filled with cremated remains of eight individuals, whom scientists estimate were buried there between 1439 and 1287 B.C. Thomas Muir, the archaeologist who led the expedition, said the evidence at the site indicates that a “horrible event” such as famine wiped out a large number of the population at once.

Burials Occurred Between the 15th and 13th Century B.C.

"The five urns in the Twentyshilling Barrow contained at least eight individuals," Muir explained. "The urns were deposited at the same time, as they were packed tightly within the pit and adhered to the same 15th to 13th century B.C. date range." He added that this indicates a mass burial “possibly of the same family or group.”

Bronze Age Was a 'Time of Particular Stress' in Scotland

Other burials in the same area bear evidence of abandonment and famine, which could mean that the Bronze Age was a “time of particular stress” in Scotland. "What is significant about the Twentyshilling remains is that they were cremated and then buried almost immediately," Muir said. This was an unusual practice because there was "quite a tradition" in the Bronze Age of letting bodies sit out for some time after death as a way for family and friends to say their goodbyes. Those graves would be “reopened a few times and reused, so it [was] used by a community over a long period of time…Whereas what we have at Twentyshilling is some sort of horrible event must have happened to the community—possibly famine—and a lot of people have died within a very short period of each other."

The archaeological expedition was carried out as a condition of a new wind farm built on the site, which is now open and operational. However, considering what was found within the burials, Muir and his team are planning further examinations of the area to see what they can uncover. The “mysterious” burials and storage of the remains could illuminate for scientists ancient and still elusive funerary practices of Bronze Age cultures.

Greenworks' 80V 18-Inch Cordless Chainsaw Is Nearly 50% Off on Amazon Right Now

Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services.  If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Why We Love This Deal

Aside from a snow blower and a shovel, a chainsaw is one of the best tools to have in the winter. Not only will it make quick work of processing logs for firewood, but with the extreme weather that continues to sweep the country, having a chainsaw can ensure that any damaged trees or branches don't cause more harm than their initial fall. A quick Amazon search will show that not many are on sale right now, but there's one heavy-duty model from Greenworks that stands apart from the group with a shockingly steep discount.

The Greenworks 80V 18-Inch Cordless Chainsaw is on sale for $190—its lowest price of the year—which is $160 off the original $350 price tag. This popular cordless saw, which has been purchased over 700 times in the last month, boasts over 1,400 five-star ratings at Amazon, and shoppers say it’s “fantastic” and a “complete game changer” for yard work.

  • Weight: 2.05 pounds
  • Brushless Motor: Yes
  • Included: Greenworks 80V 18-inch Brushless Chainsaw, Greenworks 80V 2Ah Battery, Rapid Charger
  • Best For: Small-to-medium trees, branch trimming, log refining

Whether you’re slicing up pesky stumps or collecting firewood, this Greenworks chainsaw is up to the challenge. The 80-volt battery provides it with plenty of power and makes it completely cordless, allowing you to operate freely in the open without restraint.

In addition, this chainsaw also has a brushless motor that doubles its torque, extends its runtime, and keeps it quiet in a world of noisy power tools. The tool itself, although powerful, is rather simple to use. Just push a button to start it, as you don’t have to worry about spark plugs or starter ropes. As for safety, there's a low-kick back chain and an 18-inch bar that’ll help reduce tension and prevent accidents.

What Shoppers Are Saying

One thing is clear from reviewer reactions: They're impressed by the fact that an electric chainsaw can put out so much power. “It's an amazing saw. I'd give it 6 stars if I could," one said. They added that they've "had Husqvarna, Craftsman, and several other gas saws. This is so much better. I never have to deal with stalls or gas/oil mixtures; it shuts off between cuts, and it's quieter.”

Others noted how its thoughtful design makes it smooth to operate and comfortable to hold. “It has great power and is very comfortable in the hand. It has teeth at the base of the blade to prevent kickback and a lock bar in case it should happen.”

The Greenworks 80V Cordless Chainsaw, at $190, is now its lowest price of the year. As a result, we would recommend getting one ASAP before this saw sells out or runs out of stock.
