John Cena's Response to James Gunn's Peacemaker Pitch for 'Superman:’ ‘Heck Yes’

John Cena may have gotten the call from James Gunn to join Superman late in filming, but the Peacemaker star didn’t need to be asked twice if he wanted to make a cameo. Cena even took it one step further, admitting he'd "go to the ends of the earth" if Gunn asked him to, which summed up why he needed just two words when the DC Studios' co-CEO asked him to make a quick appearance in Superman.

"Heck yes," Cena said when Gunn asked if he wanted in DC's newest superhero film, as Fiction Horizon highlighted.

While Cena sounded as though his answer would have been a resounding "yes" regardless of how Gunn pitched the cameo, the structure of the scene made it even better.

"I got to go on a talk show and talk smack about Superman," Cena said. "I was called in at the final hour as we were getting ready for Peacemaker Season 2...James asked if I wanted in and I said, 'heck yes.'"

Peacemaker's appearance was only for one scene, but as Cena stated, he got the chance to trash-talk David Corenswet's Superman, a fun opportunity that any fellow DC superhero surely would have jumped at.

John Cena's Lofty Praise for James Gunn Ahead of 'Peacemaker' Season 2

Gunn's arrival and approach to the new DC universe have been extremely well received by critics and fans alike. Even more than that, Cena is among the actors who have worked with Gunn that offered the director/co-CEO high praise.

However, for Cena, it goes beyond Gunn's vision for the new DCU and his work as a filmmaker. Cena credited him for changing his life "completely" ahead of Peacemaker Season 2's release.

“The cameo came about because he asked me, and he could ask me to go to the ends of the Earth and if I could do it, then I’ll do it,” Cena said. “He’s one of the people on a short list, which I admire and respect and really do as much as I can for them. He’s changed my life completely, as I stand here in [the Peacemaker costume].”

It's lofty praise from Cena, and it also proves that the Peacemaker actor loves the direction Gunn took for Season 2 of the series. As Soap Central cited, Gunn not only wrote all eight episodes of the upcoming season but also directed the premiere.

Cena's official return as Peacemaker will hit HBO Max on Thursday, August 21, with subsequent episodes following weekly.
