Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, has died at the age of 48.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," a rep for the family told People on Thursday, August 7. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."
One day prior to his death, Kelly -- who shares daughter River Rose and son Remington with the TV producer -- announced she was postponing her Las Vegas residency due to Blackstock's illness.
"Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them," she announced to her fans via social media. "I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding."
Blackstock was also father to two children from a previous relationship, Savannah and Seth.
The American Idol winner and her ex were first linked in 2012. They tied the knot in October 2013. Kelly filed for divorce in 2020. After finalizing their contentious divorce in 2022, Kelly opened up about their split.
"I think the thing about divorce — especially having it publicized, and people thinking they know the whole thing — the hardest part of that is, like, it wasn't an overnight decision," she said in 2023. “I wanted to make it beautiful. I wanted to make it awesome. I wanted to make it everything it possibly could be, and sometimes that just doesn’t happen.”
