Merrell's 'Lightweight' Hiking Boots That Are 'Comfortable, Durable, and Grippy' Are Nearly $100 Off

The changing seasons are primed to usher in some of the most enjoyable hiking adventures of the year, but only if you're in a pair of comfortable hiking boots. Thankfully, Merrell continues to pump out some of the most fail-safe styles for underfoot comfort, including those from its legendary Moab series. But some hikers are left craving a taller boot, and right now, one of Merrell's most lightweight and waterproof models that rivals the Moab just went on sale, and it's nearly $100 off.

Merrell's Rogue Hiker Mid GTX Hiking Boots are now on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods for only $133—42% off the normal $230 price tag. These waterproof hiking boots are one of the most under-the-radar deals at Dick's, despite earning a solid 4.2-star rating after more than 50 votes from shoppers who say they're "extremely comfortable." They're still available in a full run of sizes from 8.5 to 14 in one color—a neutral mix of gray and green—but we're guessing they'll start to sell out soon. If they do sell out, it's still worth picking up Merrell's iconic Moab 3 boot, which is also on sale.

Get It

These Merrell hiking boots are made from a ballistic mesh and TPU upper that's fiercely rugged but ultra-lightweight, and they're lined with a layer of Gore-Tex for waterproof protection. Merrell opted for both hooks and eyelets for its lacing system, which work in tandem with the tongue's bellows gusset to stay tight and keep trail debris from getting in. The boot has durable Vibram Megagrip rubber underneath with 5mm claw-like lugs that can tear up the nastiest of trails, but the real magic lies in the midsole. Merrell drew inspiration from trail running shoes when building this boot, giving it a thick dual-density foam midsole for even better shock absorption as well as a rock plate for enhanced underfoot protection.

Those who have ventured out in the Rogue Hiker Mid say even the rockiest terrain is no match for it. "I’ve worn the Moab for years in Southern Appalachia," a shopper began. "After moving to New England, I needed a shoe with more grip on exposed rock. After trying a few competitors, I came back to Merrell, this time with the Rogue. The Rogue has been every bit of the shoe I hoped for—comfortable, durable, and grippy (even on a wet surface). I’ve thrown away all my other hiking shoes and now grab the Rogue whenever I’m going to a trail."

Others raved about how water-tight they are despite being so light. "Lightweight and capable of sloshing through puddles without any water penetration," a shopper said. "They fit perfectly to my running shoe size and feel very much the same on my feet." Another shopper agreed, saying, "They kept my feet dry on some serious water crossings."

If you're gearing up for fall adventures and need a great new hiking boot to accompany you, Merrell's Rogue Hiker Mid GTX should be at the top of your list because of its low weight, ankle support, and waterproofing. Make sure to grab yours soon, though, because we're confident that these will start to sell out now that they're nearly $100 off.
