Those traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday along certain parts of the East Coast this weekend will get a break at the gap pump. Sheetz, the popular convenience store and coffee shop chain has announced that its offering gas for just $1.99 per gallon at all of its locations that sell gasoline.
The deal, which is good on 88-octane fuel, will run now through Monday, Nov. 27, at 422 of the Sheetz locations that carry the fuel grade in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. And it's a staggeringly good deal considering that the national average is currently $3.295, according to AAA. That's a savings of approximately $1.30 per gallon.
But perhaps the gas deal is to entice customers to spend more inside the store. In addition to coffee and gas, Sheetz sells a number of made-to-order (MTO) food options such as sandwiches, breakfast items, nachos, and salads; as well as grab-and-go bakery items. The Altoona, Pennsylvania-based chain has a cult following loyalists, sparking a bitter rivalry with fellow Pennsylvania gas and convenience chain Wawa, which likewise operates on the East Coast down to Florida.
The Sheetz vs. Wawa divide gained widespread attention last year when then-Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman expressed his affiliation with Sheetz during his U.S. Senate campaign last year. "Wawa is great if you're 50 miles or more from a Sheetz," he quipped. "I just want voters to understand that."

Over this Thanksgiving, at least, it seems as though Sheetz has a (turkey) leg up on its competition. To learn which Sheetz locations carry Unleaded 88, you can download the Sheetz mobile app or check on the website.
