Matt Ulrich, former offensive guard for the Indianapolis Colts, has reportedly died. Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay broke the news on Wednesday.
"I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Matt Ulrich," Irsay shared in a social media post, along with a photo of a triumphant Ulrich holding the Lombardi Trophy. "Matt was with us only two seasons, but left his mark on many. Great guy, I hear he was a great dad—and he was a Super Bowl champ. My prayers to his family."

After going undrafted in 2005, Ulrich joined the Colts. He played a total of 10 games with Indianapolis and helped lead the Colts to victory in Super Bowl XLI against the Chicago Bears in 2007 alongside legendary quarterback Peyton Manning. Prior to his NFL career, Ulrich was named team captain of Northwestern University's football team in 2004 and earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention.
In addition to earning the title of National Strength and Conditioning All-American in 2004, Ulrich still holds several Northwestern weight room records including squat, at 715 pounds; bench press, at 475 pounds; and and incline press, at 425 pounds. In high school, he won All-State and All-Midwest honors in football for Streamwood High School in the Chicago suburbs, as well as competing in shot put.
After retiring from the NFL, Ulrich started a fitness company and headed operations and sports performance at a now-defunct fitness club, Winning Edge Athletics in Chicago. Most recently, he served as director of a business development agency headquartered in Bozeman, Montana.
