In November 2025, a video of Paris Jackson from social media was re-uploaded to a fan TikTok account. In the clip, she stated that she believed some people may notice a whistle when she speaks and volunteered an explanation. As Jackson explained in the clip, she has a perforated septum, which is a hole in the tissue wall that divides a person's nasal cavities. As she made that remark, Jackson held her phone's flashlight to her nose, allowing the camera to capture footage of the light going through the hole.
“I realized I have never actually addressed this, and it can sometimes be very noticeable, I have a really loud whistle. If you go back to videos, you can hear it when I breathe through my nose, and that is because I have what is called a perforated septum, slightly different from a deviated septum.”
After revealing the hole in her nose, Jackson didn't hold back while discussing what caused it. In a very frank and admirable moment, Jackson stated that the hole is a side effect of her past drug use. Jackson then encouraged any young viewers to steer clear of illicit substances, and stated that her past drug use "ruined" her life.
“That's what you think it's from. Don't do drugs kids. Or, I mean. Do. I mean, everyone's gonna have the experience they need to have with life. I'm not gonna tell anyone what to do. But, I don't recommend it because it ruined my life.”
As the video clip was ending, Jackson can be heard explaining that she hasn't had her perforated septum fixed because she doesn't want to take the medication required to undergo that procedure. Finally, Jackson admitted that the hole can be frustrating when she is singing before revealing that it allows her to do something amusing with her nose.
“I don't want to get plastic surgery to fix it because I'm almost six years sober. And so, you have to take pills when you do a surgery that gnarly, and I don't want to f--k with that. But, I've been living with this since I was about 20, and it's a bitch when you're in the studio, coughing vocals. I can actually stick a spaghetti noodle [in the hole] and [pull it back and forth].”

Long before Paris Jackson recently revealed that she has a perforated septum, she'd already opened up about her past drug use in public. The most notable example of that is from a January 7, 2025 post on Jackson's Instagram account. In the post, she celebrated reaching an important landmark in her life, being 5 years sober of alcohol and illicit substances. Just as importantly, Jackson's post also described how happy she is to be sober.
"today marks 5 years clean & sober from all drugs and alcohol. to say that i’m thankful would be a poor euphemism. gratitude hardly scratches the surface. it’s because i’m sober that i get to smile today. i get to make music. i get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. i get to feel heartbreak in all it’s glory. i get to grieve. i get to laugh. i get to dance. i get to trust. i feel the sun on my skin and it’s warm. i’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether i’m sober or not, but today i get to show up for it."
As a part of the Instagram post, Jackson included a video montage that represents how her life has changed post-sobriety. The video begins with clips of Jackson from before she got sober, with her looking sad or outright crying in several of those clips. Then, a series of clips showed Jackson smiling, dancing, singing, enjoying nature, and connecting with animals.
Since becoming sober, Jackson has spoken out about how much happier she is on multiple occasions. For example, an October 2025 People article summarized comments she made at the 35th annual Friendly House Awards Luncheon in Los Angeles about her own sobriety journey and helping others through theirs. At that event, Jackson was given the Shining Star Award for her work helping people become sober.
