Naughty Dog's New Game Gets Release Date Update

The Game Awards 2025 is quickly approaching, and despite being announced at last year's show, it looks like Naughty Dog's latest project after The Last of Us Part 2 will not be releasing anytime soon.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not be appearing at the awards show on December 11, according to prolific video game journalistJeff Grubbon X. Additionally, insider Jason Schreier made a comment on Reddit, saying: "Can assure you that Intergalactic is not coming out in 2026."

These comments should be given their due skepticism, just like all leaks and rumors, but given Grubb's and Schreier's almost-always-correct track record regarding video game announcements, it seems like Naughty Dog is still deep in development of the title and isn't ready to show anything else yet.

Intergalactic's announcement trailer gave fans a look at the sci-fi setting and the lead character, bounty hunter Jordan Mun, but since then, there has been virtually no information released about the game.

If this turns out to be true and Intergalactic does not release in 2026, then it will be almost seven years into the life of the PlayStation 5 without a new game release from Naughty Dog. The company rose to fame with the development of Crash Bandicoot on the PlayStation and Jak & Daxter on the PlayStation 2 but found even more success with the Uncharted and The Last of Us series on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

It's not uncharacteristic for Naughty Dog to take quite a bit of time before new game releases, especially after reports of severe crunch and unexpected difficulties developing The Last of Us Part 2, which released during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Neil Druckman is leading the project and also serving as co-writer, the same role he had for The Last of Us Part 2. Druckman recently worked on the television adaptation of The Last of Us as well but has since departed from the ongoing project ahead of its season three production. Druckman stated his reasoning for leaving was to focus on his duties at Naughty Dog, including developing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet does not currently have a release date, but it seems it will be at least 2027 before fans can see what Naughty Dog has been working for all these years.
