You'll Never Guess What Colin Farrell Listened to to Get Into Character for 'The Penguin'

As Colin Farrell accepted his Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Limited Series, he joked "I did it all by myself...it was just a raw, pared down performance."

This, of course, was a massive joke. Anyone who's seen Farrell in The Penguin could hardly recognize him in the role. The massive amount of prosthetics Farrell wore as the titular Batman villain took "three hours" in the makeup chair.

But Farrell credited not only makeup artist Mike Marino but also said his greatest asset, in addition to black coffee, was that he "listened to 80s music" during the process.

This means that while he was getting into character as the Penguin, Colin Farrell was jamming 80s hits. Could he have been listening to Prince's original 1989 soundtrack for Tim Burton's Batman? Or was he blasting Huey Lewis and the News? Or, since Farrell is Irish, maybe his soundtrack was U2?

Either way, after thanking The Batman director Matt Reeves for "recreating Gotham," Farrell also thanked Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc, and said, "It's prosthetics from here on out."

Does that mean Farrell will definitely return as Oz for a hypothetical Penguin Season 2? Producer Matt Reeves has indicated it could happen, recently saying, "Yeah, we’re talking to [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] about doing another season [of The Penguin]."

The Penguin streams on HBO Max.
