Spoiler alert: For Jon Hamm's character in Landman, Taylor Sheridan's Paramount+ hit about the oil business, it's one and done as far as seasons go.
The show's co-creator Christian Wallace confirmed after the finale aired on Jan. 11 that Hamm's oil tycoon character in the show, Monty Miller, died from a heart attack.
Hamm spoke with The Hollywood Reporter post-finale about what drew him to the show and reactions to him dying onscreen. He said he was "mystified" about how good the show ended up being.
The Mad Men star admitted he couldn't recall if he'd died in any previous roles, but he heard from family about this one in particular.
"My sister texted me and said, 'I can't believe I had to watch you die on screen,'" he said. "I was like, 'Haven't you seen that before?'" And she was like, 'No!'"
The actor marveled at his costars, Demi Moore and Billy Bob Thornton, remarking that working with them was truly outstanding and made having to leave the show, via a death, that much easier.
"I just can't imagine it being any more exiting or fun," he said. "Who gets to be present at their own death, you know?"

Next up for Hamm will be the Apple TV+ series Your Friends and Neighbors on April 11, in which he plays a divorced and unemployed hedge fund manager who begins to dabble in thievery. Amanda Peet costars.
All 10 episodes of the first season of Landman can be streamed via Paramount+ now.
