Video: Husband of Pageant Runner-Up Snatches Crown From Winner

The husband of a Brazilian beauty pageant contestant took sore losing to a new level over the weekend when his partner wasn't crowned winner. And the competition organizers have since issued a statement making it clear that the man's behavior was unacceptable.

Miss Gay Mato Grosso is the LGBTQ version of the Miss Mato Grosso, which is held annually to select a representative for Mato Grosso—the third-largest state in Brazil. In this year's Miss Gay Mato Grosso, which was held on Saturday, it came down to Emannuelly Belini of Várzea Grande, and Nathally Becker, who was representing the city of Cuiabá.

However, just after Belini was announced to be the 2023 winner, Becker's husband rushed onto the stage, snatched the crown before it could be placed on Belini's head, and threw it violently. He then tried to pull Belini off stage before picking the crown off the floor and throwing it a second time.

The wild scene was captured on video, and has since gone viral.

In a statement, Miss Gay Mato Grosso pageant team congratulated Belini on her win, while condoning the unidentified husband's behavior.

"We reiterate our best wishes and wish you a glamorous reign, and that your activities may reflect the voice and desires of the LGBTQIAP+ community," the statement began.

"At the same time, and due to the repercussions, we vehemently repudiate the fact that occurred at the time of the crowning of the elected Miss, when the partner of Miss Cuiabá, who was classified in second place, invaded the stage and aggressively destroyed the crown of the contest," the organizers continued.

The statement went on to say that the contest's legal team had been contacted and that appropriate measures will be taken.

"Finally, we ratify the choice made by the jury of the pageant and we sympathize with the elected Miss, as well as with the Miss who was in second place, since she is not responsible for the crazy attitudes of third parties," it added.

Meanwhile, Belini will now go on to compete in the Miss Gay Brazil pageant, where hopefully, the drama will be contained within the competition.
