Another month is on the horizon, which means another month of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. However, this round of free games seems to be drawing a particularly negative reaction from some fans.
Revealed in a post to PlayStation Blog, the free PlayStation Plus games for January are Need for Speed Unbound, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, and Core Keeper. The games will be available to add to users' digital libraries on January 6.
The selection of games, however, is drawing a lot of negative opinions from fans, both on the official blog post and on social media.
Replying to the blog post, PlayStation Plus user icemann72786 wrote, "This has got to be the worst line-up since the creation of the service. Outstanding way to start the year, but will give credit for at least ending it well….. I guess?"
Another user, barriebum, even said, "Looks like I won’t be subscribing then, thank you."
In the line-up announcement post on X by the official PlayStation account, fans are also voicing their concerns with the game choices. X account NIB wrote, "Absolutely meh. Talk about a poor start to the year for PSN.
X account kieran expressed similar grievances, writing, "wow, we’re going into 2026 with the weakest PS Plus lineup i’ve ever seen…"
There are still some fans expressing excitement for the titles on both social media and in the replies on the blog post, but it seems quite a few PlayStation Plus subscribers are at least slightly disappointed with the service's offerings for January.
That being said, the monthly free games are still completely free to all subscribers, so fans may find some enjoyment out of them, and this could be a knee-jerk reaction.
The December free games, which are Lego Horizon Adventures, Killing Floor 3, The Outlast Trials, Synduality Echo of Ada, and Neon White are still available to download until January 5, 2026.
