This Iconic Restaurant Just Dropped a Cheesy New Appetizer—Here's How You Can Try It For Free

The chain restaurant industry has seen a huge shift in the last few decades. Some have closed due to poor sales, some have rebranded to appeal to new generations and others have invested in menu innovation and new decor to bring customers in. Chili’s Bar and Grill, the casual chain headquartered in Dallas, Texas, is one of the giants slapping new dishes on their menu based on customer feedback.

Chili’s, who has reportedly invested hundreds of millions of dollars into their restaurants, revamping their famous Baby Back Ribs and Frozen Margaritas, is now giving their queso a makeover.

Previously on the menu was Skillet Beef Queso and White Skillet Queso, and will now be replaced with their Southwestern Queso. This all-new recipe features "a melty blend of American and cheddar cheeses, fire-roasted green chilies, sweet onions and a hint of lime”, served with their fan-favorite freshly fried thin tortilla chips and housemade salsa.

Chili's Replaces Skillet Beef Queso with New Southwestern Queso

The chain has stated that customer feedback is a huge part of their menu development, and when offering a taste test of the new Southwestern Queso as compared to their previous varieties, over 70% of individuals favored the new recipe.

As an incentive to their loyal customers and because they’re confident diners will love their new queso, Chili’s is offering free Southwestern Queso to My Chili’s members from October 7 to October 21.

In addition to offering the new queso on their appetizer menu, it can be found as part of their Dip Trio, as a “dippable side” to the Sizzlin’ Fajitas and as a topping on their Chicken Bacon Ranch Nachos, which is also a new menu item.

Some customers are “devastated” to see the Skillet Beef Queso appetizer leave the menu, but Chili’s reported it only accounted for about 1% of sales, so it was nixed from the menu. Chili's removed their ever-popular Original Chicken Crispers from their menus in 2022, and some fans say they haven't been back since.

We can only hope this new queso is as delicious as it sounds, and when it drops on October 7, we think it's worth giving it a try.
