D4vd Not Named a Murder Suspect, Police Confirm in New Statement

Last week, 20-year-old musical artist D4vd was thrust into the headlines after the decaying and dismembered remains of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas were found in the trunk of one of his cars at a Los Angeles impound lot.

Though there have been several apparent connections drawn between D4vd and Rivas, and authorities even raided the house where he had been living, D4vd has never been listed as a murder suspect. In a new statement, authorities confirmed that and explained why.

What We Know About the Investigation

  • A decomposing body was found inside a Tesla belonging to musician D4vd at an impound lot in Hollywood on Sept. 8.
  • The car was brought to the impound lot after “someone reported it abandoned” in Hollywood Hills, and police were called after workers “reported a strong odor” coming from the Tesla.
  • The Tesla was never reported as stolen.
  • The body was discovered inside a bag in the Tesla’s front trunk. The remains were not intact and had badly decomposed.
  • The remains were so decomposed that it took authorities more than a week to identify the body.
  • The remains were eventually identified as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas.
  • D4vd has a matching tattoo with Rivas, and her mother said she has been missing for over a year and that her daughter’s boyfriend was named David.
  • D4vd initially decided to continue his world tour while cooperating with the investigation, but he cancelled the remainder of his tour on Wednesday.
  • An unreleased love song written by D4vd references someone by the name of “Celeste” in the unfinished title and twice in the lyrics.
  • Police raided a home connected to D4vd as they continue the investigation.
  • D4vd moves out of the home that the police raided.
  • Authorities have not officially deemed the death a homicide since medical examiners have been unable to determine an official cause of death, though TMZ has reported multiple times that the LAPD's Homicide Division is investigating the case as a potential homicide.

D4vd Linked to Celeste Rivas

D4vd was initially linked to the death of the 15-year-old girl by the simple fact that her body was found in a vehicle registered under his name, but several other pieces of evidence have since surfaced that appear to link him to Rivas, too.

Last month, Rivas' mother told TMZ that her daughter had been missing for more than a year, adding that she grew suspicious after learning of the body found in the car belonging to D4vd, since her daughter’s boyfriend was named David. TMZ also reported that both Rivas and D4vd have similar tattoos that read “Shhh…” on their right index fingers.

Shortly after the body was identified, an unreleased song by D4vd resurfaced online. The song, which was originally leaked back in 2023, appears to be a love song written about someone by the name of “Celeste,” with the name featured both in the title of the song and multiple times in the lyrics.

Additionally, several photos and videos have surfaced across social media that appear to show D4vd and Rivas together, though none of the images have been verified. Screenshots from a Discord channel have also circulated, seemingly showing the singer in conversation with someone named Celeste, but those, too, remain unconfirmed. However, friends of D4vd have indicated that it was known they were dating.

Authorities Issue a Statement

Despite all of the apparent evidence linking the singer to Rivas, D4vd has not been arrested or named a murder suspect. In a new statement this week, authorities confirmed that fact and explained why.

According to a statement from the LAPD, it's still not clear whether or not Rivas's death was a homicide, making it impossible to list a murder suspect.

“The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of Ms. Rivas Hernandez’s death. As such, it remains unclear whether there is any criminal culpability beyond the concealment of her body,” the new LAPD statement said, via Rolling Stone. “RHD is thoroughly examining every aspect of this case to uncover the truth and seek justice for Celeste Rivas Hernandez and her family.”

The department said that its Robbery-Homicide Division has been “diligently investigating” the case, but it is also waiting for an official ruling on the cause of the 15-year-old's death. The LAPD said that it is not ruling out the possibility that her death was accidental.
