Americans love Trader Joe's for its affordable options and unique food and drink offerings. So when residents of a small Maryland town saw a TJ's location was coming soon to their community, many rejoiced at the news. But it turns out it was all too good to be true.
High school seniors in Pasadena, Maryland pulled quite a senior prank on their friends and neighbors that has since gone viral. All it took was a simple sign and some clever meme work.
"Yesterday the senior class of our local high school pranked the entire town! They hung a banner in front of an empty grocery store property that said 'Coming soon: Trader Joe's with a QR code that Rickrolls you," local resident Marlena Calobong said, referencing the act of trolling by sending someone a link to the music video for Rick Astley's 1987 hit song "Never Gonna Give You Up."
"The whole town was abuzz yesterday morning, thinking we were getting a Trader Joe's! And again this morning to find out it was just a prank," she continued. "Well, they got us all! That was a good one!"
Calobong admitted to Today that she was thrilled at first before her friend told her that it was all a joke.
"We were extremely excited to see a sign pop up that we were getting another Trader Joe’s close to home," she said. "We were sad to find out the next day it was a prank. Definitely tricked us all."
If you're in the area, you'll have to drive a bit to shop at Trader Joe's in Elkridge or Annapolis.
