Ducati describes its top-of-the-range production sport bike as “The Ultimate Racetrack Machine.” These individually numbered bikes are engineered specifically for track riding, though the 2023 version is more intuitive for non-professional riders. The heart of the Panigale V4 SP2 is the 1,1030cc Desmosedici Stradale of MotoGP origin: a V4 with a counter-rotating crankshaft that delivers a lot of torque from low revs and is capable of expressing the racing soul of the bike on the track.

The aluminum front frame of Panigale V4 SP2’s chassis uses the engine as a stressed element, and it works in conjunction with the aluminum swingarm and seat post to reduce rear bike sinking when exiting corners and reopening the throttle. Suspension features include an electronically controlled Öhlins NPX pressurized fork (with 125mm of travel) that uses a pressurized cartridge damping system derived from racing forks.

For 2023, Ducati introduced dedicated technical elements to increase power and improve throttle response. The SP2 gets all the updates the Panigale V4 and V4 S received in 2022, plus a number of upgrades to make it worthy of the “Sport PRoduction” label. Panigale V4 SP2 owners will get up to 215.5 horsepower at 13,000 rpm with 91.2 ft-lb of torque, making it the quintessential track weapon for the weekend warrior. This track beast comes in special “Winter Test” livery: black matte and matte carbon finishes surrounding a brushed aluminum tank with Ducati’s signature red accents. The downlet wings are made from carbon fiber and embellished with the Italian flag (of course).
