Why We Love This Deal

Big news: REI has a stash of highly coveted Arc’teryx gear available with massive double-digit discounts right now. That includes some of the brand’s best pieces, including the Cerium SL down jacket, the Beta SL jacket, and now, the super versatile, wear-it-anywhere Gamma MX Hoody.

The Arc'teryx Gamma MX Hoody is on sale for $250, a 37% discount from its normal price of $400. This jacket is available in two colorways at that price, and there’s a full size range in stock. You won’t find a better deal on this mountain-ready layer: REI’s price beats Evo, Scheels, and Arc’teryx

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Exterior Fabric: 60D nylon
  • Lining: Polyester fleece
  • Finish: DWR treatment
  • Pockets: 3 zippered pockets

The Gamma MX is the warmest member of Arc’teryx’s Gamma line of jackets, and it offers a ton of performance, especially compared to other softshell jackets on the market.

The secret is in its dual-fabric design: It has a tough 60D nylon exterior shell that’s lined on the inside with a low-pile polyester fleece. The nylon shell offers excellent abrasion resistance and stretches to accommodate your movement (the jacket’s articulated construction also helps with that), while the polyester fleece traps warmth and vents sweat vapor, so you stay comfortable without overheating during strenuous activity. Arc’teryx also amped up its all-weather performance with a PFAS-free DWR finish and taped seams to repel light precipitation and keep you dry in wet weather.

The Gamma MX is a great do-it-all layer for varying conditions and activities. If you’re going to invest in one Arc’teryx jacket, this is a great candidate. It’s not as warm as a full-on down jacket like the Cerium, but its breathability allows you to wear it nearly year-round (down jackets really only make sense in fall and winter). It’s not as waterproof as the Beta SL, which has a Gore-Tex membrane, but the Beta SL lacks the Gamma MX’s comfy fleece lining. Unless you’re trekking through an extended downpour, you’ll really appreciate the Gamma’s comfort-oriented design and breathability.

What Shoppers Are Saying

The Gamma MX has racked up quite a few reviews at REI, and shoppers are amazed by its versatility—from alpine treks and climbing trips to casual wear in chilly weather, this jacket thrives. One shopper noted it “strikes a perfect balance between insulation and breathability,” and another loved its cozy interior fabric, saying “the soft lining feels great.” Others highlighted its impressive durability and loved the way it repelled dirt and moisture: “I’ll be buried in this thing,” said one.

REI’s other Arc’teryx deals are selling fast, and at nearly 40% off, the Gamma MX Hoody is one of the best on the site right now. I’m confident it won’t stay in stock long, so grab yours now while you can.
