Netflix Has Quietly Canceled Four Shows This Year

Netflix is the most popular streaming platform in the world, thanks in large part to its massive library of original shows, series, movies, specials, and documentaries. However, the unfortunate reality is that not all of those originals are successful.

With such a massive number of originals, Netflix often has to make some hard decisions regarding the future of some fan-favorite shows. Unfortunately, for many fans, those difficult decisions have led Netflix to cancel four of its original shows this year alone.

Alice in Borderland

Alice in Borderland is a Japanese dystopian thriller based on the manga by Haro Aso. It follows a gamer and his friends after they are transported to an abandoned, parallel Tokyo and forced to compete in dangerous, sadistic games in order to survive.

The series emerged as a fan-favorite show through the first two seasons and racked up 25 million views in its third season. However, it will not continue.

While Netflix never officially confirmed that Season 3 was the final season before its release, fans of the show received some disappointing news in the streaming giant’s “What We Watched: The Second Half of 2025” engagement report as Netflix announced that the third season was indeed the final season, quietly canceling the show.

The Abandons

Following the success of Yellowstone, many streaming services tried their hand at Western-style shows. The Abandons marked Netflix's attempt at the genre, following two rival matriarchs battling for supremacy in 1850’s Washington.

However, despite a surge in interest shortly after its release, the show will not receive a second season. After a drastic drop-off in viewership and some very unfavorable critical reviews, Netflix announced the show's cancellation just a month after it originally premiered.

The Vince Staples Show

While The Vince Staples Show was a critical success through its first two seasons, the show will not be returning for a third season.

The show is a surreal, semi-autobiographical comedy-drama that follows a fictionalized, slightly famous version of rapper Vince Staples navigating daily life. While it was a hit with critics, earning a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it was quietly canceled by Netflix this year.

The decision was likely linked to its relatively low viewership numbers, as Deadline reported that the show never charted on Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 and that it ranked just No. 1,446 on Netflix’s Second Half of 2025 viewership.

Terminator: Zero

Set in 1997 Tokyo, Terminator: Zero followed a soldier named Eiko who was sent from 2022 to protect Malcolm Lee, a scientist developing "Kokoro," an AI intended to rival Skynet.

The show was a hit with fans and critics who had been clamoring for more since it was released back in 2024. However, creator Mattson Tomlin confirmed last week that the show had been quietly canceled by Netflix due to poor viewership.

"It was cancelled. The critical and audience reception to it was tremendous, but at the end of the day, not nearly enough people watched it. I would’ve loved to deliver on the Future War I had planned in seasons 2 and 3, but I’m also very happy with how it feels contained as is,” he wrote in a post on X.

More Shows Ending

While these shows were canceled rather unceremoniously, there are a few other beloved Netflix series that will be coming to a planned end in 2026.

In addition to these four shows, Netflix has announced that several more shows will officially end in 2026. Unlike these series, however, they will receive much more official endings with their stories completed.

BMW's Fastest Cars Won't Use A Manual Transmission For Much Longer

For so many car enthusiasts, driving a car with a manual transmission is a distillation of their passions for all things automotive. Remove the human element, and the facts are pretty simple: stick shifts are slower, less economical, and more difficult to use than automatic transmissions. Moreover, they're hard to justify in today's automotive climate for a litany of reasons, as BMW M's CEO, Frank van Meel, points out. According to van Meel, there simply won't be a way to justify them soon.

van Meel: Another manual will be "quite difficult"

BMW

Speaking to CarSales, van Meel told the outlet that at least from an engineering standpoint, the stick shift just "doesn't really make sense." He assured listeners the brand will try its hardest to keep the manual around for a few more years, but beyond that, things get tough. "From an engineering standpoint, the manual doesn’t really make sense because it limits you in torque and also in fuel consumption," said Van Meel.

"It’s going to be quite difficult in the future to develop completely new gearboxes because the segment in the market is quite small, and the suppliers are not so keen on doing something like that," he continued. "So we’re still happy with the manuals we have and we plan to keep them for the next couple of years, but in future, probably it’s going to be more difficult to keep the manuals alive, especially in the next decade."

Time and technology are the killers of the manual transmission

BMW

Frankly, hardcore stick shift users couldn't care less about reduced power outputs; stick shifts have long been inferior to today's automatics. Emissions, though, are another matter entirely. The US may be well on its way to removing just about every major emissions standard for production vehicles, which could mean stick shifts continue here, but brands that make cars for numerous markets, as BMW does, have to meet much broader global emissions standards to maximize the number of markets they can sell cars in. It's a simple case of the most stringent emissions requirements, usually coming out of the EU, meaning the end of the inefficient manual transmission.

The end of the manual will be twofold, as well. This isn't a skill that people need today. Most cars now use automatic transmissions, and no one wants to work a clutch in traffic. Take rates might be high for models like the M2 (more than 50%, in fact), but those people are largely Millennials or older. The next generation of car enthusiasts likely won't grow up around a manual-powered car, either because it's been legislated away or because the odds are simply stacked against them as the number of available stick shift cars on the market dwindles.

Walmart's 5,000-Lumen Rechargeable Spotlight Is Now Only $20

Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services.  If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Why We Love This Deal

There will be times when a handy spotlight is best for what you're doing, while other tasks require a broader floodlight. For those in between moments, having something that can do both just may be the answer. That’s exactly what you get with Walmart’s bestselling Fixdono LED combo. It comes packed with 5,000 lumens of power, has both kinds of lights on either side of it, and it's now on sale for only $20 for a limited time.

Fixdono’s 5,000-Lumen Rechargeable LED Spotlight Floodlight Combo is now over 40% off at Walmart. This handheld unit is extremely portable, weighing just over a pound, yet its compact design allows you to keep it in junk drawers or in vehicles for emergencies. Since it's marked as a Flash Deal, the price is set to expire, so make sure to get one ASAP if you want one for only $20.

Fixdono 5,000-Lumen Rechargeable LED Spotlight Floodlight Combo, $20 (was $34) at Walmart

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Listed Lumens: 5,000
  • Spotlight Lighting: LED L2 Bulb
  • Beam Throw Distance (Listed): 800 yards
  • Floodlight Lighting: 45 LED lamp beads
  • Lithium Ion Battery: Rechargeable 85,000mAh
  • Size: 7-by-3.94-by-3.54 inches
  • Weight: 1.5 pounds
  • Lighting Modes: High, medium, low, red/blue strobe

The dual-light setup is the clear winner, with a focused L2 spotlight rated at up to 5,000 lumens and capable of reaching up to 800 yards, while the floodlight handles close-range tasks with its 45-LED side panel. This flashlight can be a lifesaver in a pinch, with its rechargeable 5,000 mAh battery that provides 2 to 4 hours of runtime (depending on mode) and can power dead phones. It has low, medium, and high brightness modes plus has a red/blue SOS mode too. Its durable ABS build is quite tough, and though it's only 7-by-3.94-by-3.54 inches (about the size of a large cordless drill head with handle), it's quite bright given its more compact nature. Additionally, it has a tripod mount on the bottom if you plan to use it with a tripod.

Its claim to throw a beam up to 800 yards may be a bit of a stretch given its size, but those who have used it in pitch-black woods claim it lights up well into the distance. Many note that it easily lights up tree lines, open backyards, and long driveways. This means taking it along for campsites or down rural roads at dusk is easily handled with this unit.

If there's one underrated feature here, it's the emergency backup power bank capacity via its USB-A plug-in capabilities. If power is lost during a storm or camping trip, this can easily top off any phone or radio, and you can even set it to the SOS mode, too.

Related: Walmart's 10-by-10 Waterproof Canopy Tent Is on Sale for Only $75

What Buyers Are Saying

Overall, shoppers are loving how handy this dual combo flashlight is, and many felt it's more than worth its minimal cost. One reviewer said the brightness is great, and the fact that it is rechargeable is a plus. ”Perfect for keeping in my vehicle in the event of an emergency,” they said.

Another said this “handy light” is great for home, work, and camping. They said it “lasts for hours” and can charge a cell phone via USB.

In terms of cost and performance, this Fixdono dual spotlight-floodlight is among the best we've seen lately, given all that’s packed into its compact design. It's a small $20 investment that easily pays for itself, and you’ll be glad you did if unexpected situations do arise.

Conflicting Reports Surround The Debut Of VW's Biggest New EV Brand

Conflicting reports, one from the automaker itself and another from respected German outlet Der Spiegel, surround the Volkswagen-owned Scout Motors brand. The new automaker was aimed at reviving the long-dead Scout name with a pair of rugged electric vehicles. These Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) will be powered by electric motors, but will feature a gasoline engine under the hood, which can be used to recharge the batteries. That is, when they eventually debut. The Der Spiegel report alleges that it has been pushed back to 2028, while Scout's website maintains the brand will debut in 2027.

Der Spiegel: Scout delayed until 2028

Scout

Der Spiegel claims a source within the company revealed the brand's plan to push production back to 2028. Reportedly, this is due to "technical problems," though with what specifically remains a mystery. Attitudes within the brand aren't positive regarding the 2027 timeline, and "an earlier date is now considered purely speculative." The brand's representatives declined to comment when contacted, stating they did not currently have an "update to our timeline or product plan to share."

Scout employees refute the report to buyers

Scout

However, Scout has chosen to forgo directly responding to the report, instead opting to reassure owners on forums. Jamie Vondruska, responsible for Brand Community, Socials, and Content at Scout, posted a reply to owners on the company-run forum:

"The German publications love their headlines and 'sources say' articles - it all makes for good headlines people click on. We are still moving full steam ahead, bringing Scout back to market. Everything is moving forward and making good progress. Much like the guy who is balancing spinning plates on sticks and running back and forth to keep them spinning to prevent them from falling, we are juggling a lot at once. New factory. New suppliers. Two completely new vehicles. Could there be potential delays? Of course. But I will let you all know as quickly as I can if there are any official changes or major announcements."

The response doesn't outright refute the company's alleged 2028 delay, but it also doesn't deny it. To do so would be to pin the brand into a corner, promising a timeline when there are always teething issues in getting a new brand off the ground. Scouts Terra truck and Traveler SUV generated a lot of interest when they were initially shown to the public a while back, and the brand's promise to bring a competitor to Rivian's front doorstep stood out. However, like Rivian's early days, nothing is set in stone, and much could change between now and the brand's official debut - whenever that may be.

2 Dead, Multiple Missing After Speed Boat Crash in Brazil

At least two people are dead after a passenger speedboat capsized near a popular tourist destination, leaving passengers scrambling in the water, G1 Globo reported.

2 Dead, At Least 7 Missing Following Passenger Speed Boat Crash

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, Feb. 13, at around 12:30 p.m. local time as a Lima de Abreu XV speedboat was traveling from Manaus, Brazil, to Nova Olinda do Norte. According to officials, the boat capsized at the point where the dark and muddy waters of the Rio Negro meet the light, sand-colored Solmões.

Two people have been confirmed dead, while a further seven are missing. One of the deceased was confirmed to be three-year-old year-old girl, named Samila de Souza, who was treated at a local hospital but sadly died despite the best efforts of doctors and nurses. The second victim was identified as 22-year-old Laura Bianca.

Harrowing photos from the scene show survivors trying to navigate their way to shore as firefighters descended upon the scene. A police boat and an ambulance from the Mobile Emergency Care Service also assisted in the rescue and recovery efforts.

71 Survived, But At Least 7 Remain Missing

"Currently, we are conducting a conference call with all individuals who were on board, including passengers and crew, in order to confirm the information with complete responsibility and transparency,” boat operator Lima de Abreu Navegações said in a statement. “We are also investigating, together with the competent authorities, all the circumstances that led to the incident.”

Seventy-one passengers survived the shipwreck, with many using flotation devices to push themselves to shore. "Most of them had already been rescued by boats passing by the area,” explained Colonel Ellton, the commander of the city’s specialized firefighters. “The assistance was provided by specialized teams focused on pre-hospital care and rescue for those who were still in the water.”

“From the very first moment, all appropriate emergency measures were taken,” Lima de Abreu Navegações said in a statement obtained by Metropoles. “The company's absolute priority has been to provide full assistance to the victims and their families, offering all necessary support during this time of immense grief. “We remain at the disposal of the authorities for any necessary clarifications, awaiting the conclusion of the technical investigations,” the statement concluded. “At this time, we express our solidarity with the families and friends of the victims.”

One of Merrell's 'Very Comfortable' Waterproof Hiking Boots Is on Sale for $66

Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services.  If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Why We Love This Deal

Merrell’s Mid-Winter Sale has been going strong for about a week now, and we’re here for it. The sale, which runs through Feb. 28, has featured everything from slippers to hiking shoes to rugged winter boots with massive discounts before quickly selling out. The next one to follow suit? If we're right, it'll be the Speed Solo MXD hiking boot, which is now nearly $100 off.

The Merrell Speed Solo MXD Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots are on sale for $66 when you use the code EXTRA40 at checkout, which works out to a 59% discount off their normal price of $160. Their waterproof full-grain leather and suede uppers and waterproof membrane make them great for winter weather, but they're not as well insulated as some others. That's why, come spring, these boots will truly shine.

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Type: Hiking boot
  • Colors: Black, gray, indigo
  • Sizes: 7 to 15
  • Upper: Waterproof full-grain leather, suede
  • Water-Resistance: Waterproof membrane
  • Soles: Vibram EcoStep
  • Weight: 18 ounces (solo boot)
  • Specs: Rock plate, removable foot bed, FloatPro foam midsoles
  • Best For: Urban traversing, light hikes, yardwork

These hybrid hikers bridge the gap between the trails and gorpy city life, perfectly balancing form and function. We couldn't find an actual definition of what the MXD stands for in this model, but it might be shorthand for "mixed," as it uses both leather and suede materials for the upper. This combination of the two materials gives them a clean look, while the plush Bloom foam cushioning, waterproof membrane, and Vibram sole keep them trail-ready.

Compared to other Speed Solo Mid models, these MXD lean into a more premium look. This model adds a rock plate and underfoot shield, and it comes equipped with the brand's responsive midsoles, the FloatPros. It's a leaner, more handsome-looking model without added bulk.

When compared to the Moab 3 Mids, which is Merrell's flagship boot, this model is lighter, slimmer, and definitely more of a lifestyle hiker. They are not pretending to be in the same category as the roomier, more durable Moab, but that’s why they exist: as a solid urban boot that can still be worn for easy-going hikes.

What Wearers Are Saying

These hikers have a strong 4.4-star rating, which is great, but the three reviewers who left feedback felt there was some room for improvement, too. One loved the “comfort, foot support, and durability,” but noted they may be a little warm for summer, which, given the materials, may be true.

Another said they “loved the look,” while hyping them up as very comfortable, but feeling them to be on the smaller side. The final reviewer said they did fit well, saying, “I enjoy the fit and comfort very much,” being a weekend DIYer, but felt durability could be improved.

Overall, these are stylish and extremely comfortable urban hikers, and for under $70, they are a fantastic price, even if you only get a few seasons out of them. Make sure you grab these MXD hiking boots soon, as this sale price will be gone in only a couple of weeks.

Winter Storm Warnings for 15 Feet of Snow and 100+ MPH Winds Loom

The National Weather Service and a veteran meteorologist are forecasting winter storm warnings that could bring 15 feet of snow and wind gusts beyond 100 mph in the coming days. The barrage of systems that will hit the West Coast is predicted to pose risks of power outages and periods of whiteout conditions that can make safe travel impossible.

Where the 15 Feet of Snow and 100+ MPH Winds Are Expected

The National Weather Service in Reno, Nevada, issued an urgent winter storm warning on February 16, 2026. It calls for wind gusts exceeding 100 mph striking the Sierra Nevada ridges, a region that falls in California and Nevada. It also forecasted that areas alongside highway US-395, which runs through California, Nevada, and Washington, could face gusts of 60 to 70 mph.

On February 15, 2026, the NBC News affiliate WFLA-TV's "Chief Meteorologist and Climate Specialist," Jeff Berardelli, posted on X about several winter storms heading for the West Coast. In particular, he warned that the highest regions of the Sierra Nevada will face five storms in 15 days that could potentially bring 15 feet of snow. He also noted that if the models hold up, the snow accumulation could exceed even that staggering number.

"We say #snowmageddon as a joke, but if ever there was a time to use it, it’s now!! Watch as the West Coast gets bombarded by at least 5 storms in 15 days, with up to 15 feet of snow in the high Sierra, and that may be an underestimate if the models verify. NWS says 8 feet possible by Wednesday. Incredible! #snow"

Berardelli is an accomplished meteorologist with extensive experience. A Columbia Climate School profile of him describes him as an on-air TV meteorologist with 20 years of experience. His WFLA-TV profile states that he earned his bachelor’s degree in atmospheric sciences from Cornell University.

How to Prepare for Winter Storm Travel If You Must Drive

The National Weather Service's warning calling for extreme wind speeds also predicts that the system will make it very difficult, if not impossible, to drive due to whiteout conditions. That is why anyone in the affected areas should stay off the roads whenever possible and keep a very close eye on local forecasts. If travel is necessary during winter storm conditions, it is wise to be prepared. A Men's Journal guide on how to build a winter storm travel kit, based on expert advice, recommends bringing the following.

  • Flashlight (preferably crank-type, because batteries don’t last long in extreme cold)
  • Reflective safety triangles or flares
  • Small first-aid kit
  • Snow brush and scraper
  • Traction aids
  • Small shovel with long handle
  • Bag of abrasive material: sand, kitty litter (avoid road salt, which can cause your vehicle to rust)
  • Plenty of windshield washer fluid
  • Booster cables
  • Gas-line antifreeze
  • Lock de-icer (in extreme cold, keep it with you, rather than in your vehicle!)
  • Paper towels
  • Small tool kit (screwdriver, pliers, etc.)
  • Extra fuses (for the vehicle’s electrical system)
  • Warm blanket
  • Extra socks, boots and gloves
  • Hand and foot warmers
  • Bottles of water
  • Granola bars

Discover the 9 Most Expensive Cities in America and Why They Cost So Much

A new survey by Remitly has revealed the least-affordable cities in America, with some surprising results.

California Dominates List of Most-Expensive Cities

The survey found that California dominated the ranking of most-expensive cities, taking six of the nine top spots. These are the nine least-affordable cities in America, according to Remitly:

  • San Jose, CA
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Long Beach, CA
  • San Diego
  • New York City, NY
  • Miami, FL
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Boston, MA
  • Oakland, CA
Downtown San Jose long exposure night photography light trails at San Pedro Square

Higher Demand Has Led to Higher Costs

“Home prices are high in many of these cities, especially the California markets. On the one hand, this reflects the desirability of these areas that offer high-paying jobs, a favorable climate, and access to natural and cultural amenities,” Danielle Hale, chief economist at Realtor.com®, toldThe New York Post. “On the other hand, this shows the inability of supply to keep pace with this demand, which means the market clears by pushing prices higher, though prices can also remain high if the cost of bringing a home to the market is elevated by the cost of regulatory compliance.”

Hale went on to explain that the reason California is experiencing such an inflated cost of living is that it’s become exceedingly hard (not to mention expensive) to build on the state’s land. “A recent Realtor.com report showed that homeownership in California has not always been so unaffordable to the typical earner, but in order to move back in that direction, the state needs to take steps to make it easier to build,” she said.

In San Jose, the average home lists for around $1.95 million, while the average annual income tops out around $140,000. Both Los Angeles and Long Beach see average home listings of $1.025 million against citizens’ average annual salaries of around $80,000.

Miami and New York Remain Popular Destinations

As for New York and Miami, “strong demand has outmatched supply, pushing prices higher in a market where proximity is a key marker of value,” Hale explained. “One bright spot for this market is that typical asking prices have been relatively flat in recent months” in the New York market. As for Miami, its popularity endures thanks to “its climate, opportunities, and favorable tax situation.”

“Recent data show that more than a third (33.6 percent) of home shoppers in Miami came from another country or state. In fact, one in five Miami home shoppers was coming from the New York City area. While Miami’s prices have grown, the median remains about a third below the median priced listing in New York City.”

Boston has also risen to become one of the nation’s most expensive cities despite once being on the other side of the equation. “Boston is a major city with above-average wages due in part to a high-skilled workforce and a higher-than-usual share of industries that employ high-wage workers,” Hale said. However, as the city has consistently attracted “these workers and home shoppers from all over, its home prices have risen. Construction in Boston and Massachusetts lags behind its population relative to other states. In fact, Massachusetts earned the lowest rating in our recent state report cards ranking on home affordability and new construction in large part due to its lengthy zoning codes and highly fragmented districts.”

Wayfair Has a 1-Person Infrared Sauna on Sale for $849 During Its Presidents Day Sale

Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services.  If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

In This Story

Why It's a Big Deal

Wayfair's gigantic Presidents Day sale is up and running, and as usual, copious kinds of home upgrades are seeing substantial discounts. Everything from cold plunges to movie theatre-quality recliners is being marked down, but another category that commands some attention is its at-home saunas. There are options for two-seaters and full-sized solo models, but one that instantly stands out is this mini sauna—during the sale, it's under $850.

The Erommy Low EMF Far Infrared Mini Sauna is on sale for $849 right now, a 67% discount off its full price of $2,546. If you’ve ever contemplated upping your recovery game, this mini sauna is a very affordable way to do it at home, and it’s one of the more compelling sauna deals we’ve seen from Wayfair in a while—most of the time, you're looking at prices from at least $1,200 for a single-person unit.

Erommy Low EMF Far Infrared Mini Sauna, $849 (was $2,546) at Wayfair

Shop at Wayfair

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Dimensions: 35.6-by-16-by-72 inches
  • Materials: 5mm MDF boards (rolled-edge), thickened industrial powder-coated metal
  • Adjustable Shelves: 5
  • Unit Weight: 129 pounds
  • Max Holding Capacity: 2,250 pounds
  • Shelves Capacity: ~450 pounds
  • Hardware Assembly: No nuts or bolts

This 800-watt mini sauna is designed for one person, with overall dimensions of 27.5-by-32.6-by-60 inches. It's crafted from Canadian hemlock and tempered glass, which has heating panels for even heating distribution. It also has independent zone controls, ambient lighting, MP3 auxiliary input, and built-in Bluetooth speakers. The modular design and groove-lock mechanisms make it fairly easy to assemble by yourself (one reviewer did it in under 30 minutes), and at just 129 pounds and the above dimensions, you'll be able to fit it in basements, larger bathrooms, home gyms, and even walk-in closets.

This model uses a lower EMF far infrared (FIR) output, as opposed to near infrared (NIR). FIR models like this one deliver deeper, more intense heat, creating a better detoxification session with greater sweating, cardiovascular conditioning, and muscle pain relief. NIR saunas use more superficial wavelengths that are shorter, and can help to enhance skin health, wound healing, and increase collagen production. Both promote relaxation, but FIR is better for sore muscles, and NIR excels for skin health.

We love covering a good deal on an at-home sauna, but most of those deals sit comfortably in the $1,200 to $2,00 range, even after discounts. The biggest difference maker here is arguably price. A full-wood, far-infarer unit with carbon emitters, Bluetooth tech, and priced under $900, this deal is about as good as they come.

What Owners Are Saying

This mini sauna only has a handful of reviews, but it has an almost perfect rating overall. One shopper was so ecstatic about this deal, they said, “This is the best find of the century—fits in small bathrooms and has the ideal specs.”

“Very nice and it was easy to put together; I did it by myself in under 30 minutes,” said another reviewer. It works great, “heats up quickly, and fits one person comfortably.” While they noted there’s little room to stretch or stand, sitting is acceptable. “Does the trick if you want an affordable compact sauna,” said another shopper.

With a total savings of $1,697 on this Erommy mini sauna, you can take those savings and use them on getting some other excellent deals during Wayfair's Presidents Day sale. Don’t wait around, however, because the deals wrap up on Feb. 17.

Today's season-opening Daytona 500 race broadcast was originally set to start airing at 2:30 p.m. ET, with the green flag to be dropped after 3:00 p.m. ET. However, calls for the threat of rain later in the day at the location of the Daytona International Speedway forced a change.

The website for the Daytona International Speedway now lists the event's start time as 1:30 p.m. ET, and the Associated Press confirms the green flag will drop at approximately 2:13 p.m. ET.

For NASCAR fans who don't want to miss any of the action, it is crucial to know about this time change. Viewers who tune in at the original 2:30 p.m. ET time will miss about 17 minutes of the action.

The National Weather Service forecast for Daytona Beach shows a 56% chance of rain by 6 p.m. ET this afternoon. Those chances climb to a 90% chance of precipitation overnight with possible showers and thunderstorms.

Drummer from Indie Band Dead at 42

The drummer from Atlanta-based indie band Manchester Orchestra has died. Tim Very was 42. Here’s what they said on social media.

“The entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very. The most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life. We’ve all been dreading sharing this news as we are all still in absolute disbelief.

Tim was instantly likable and interacted with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was infectious and he immediately made people feel invited and encouraged. His humor and energy were the very foundation that held together the entire MO universe. Strangers quickly became friends and friends became family.

He had an undeniable light that was only matched by his dedication and love for the craft that he was clearly put on earth to do. No words can ever do him justice. Please know, if you are someone who loved Tim, he loved you too.

The only thing that Tim loved more than creating music was being with his family. You’d be pressed to find a more joyful dad.

We love you Tim, thank you for loving us. You are a force of positivity that will be a constant presence in the rest of our days.”

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi Help 'Wuthering Heights' Crush the Box Office Despite Mediocre Reviews

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are powering Emerald Fennell's 2026 adaptation of Emily Brontë's classic novel, "Wuthering Heights," to a strong box office opening despite mediocre reviews from critics.

On February 14, 2026, Variety reported that Wuthering Heights earned $11 million domestically on its opening day, making it the number one movie in America. The outlet also reported that the film was produced for $80 million, and it is projected to make $40 million domestically over its opening weekend. That alone would be a very solid start for the film. However, it gets better than that.

Variety also projected that Wuthering Heights is expected to earn an additional $40 million from international markets over the weekend. If those numbers hold or are surpassed, the film will have recovered its production budget within days of its release. While it will also need to recoup its promotional costs to start making a profit, current reports point to the movie being an impressive success.

'Wuthering Heights' Has Received Mixed Reviews From Critics

On Rotten Tomatoes, Wuthering Heights holds a 63% Tomatometer score from critics. While that figure is unimpressive, the website's page summarizing how movie critics reviewed the film includes a positive take from Peter Travers of The Travers Take. "Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi get steamy in Emerald Fennell’s overheated but undercooked take on Emily BrontĂ«’s classic Gothic romance in which they suck each other’s faces with a wild, porny abandon that would shock Victorians. No complaints here."

Additionally, Adam Graham from the Detroit News wrote a review that praised the movie's scope and energy. "This is a large-scale costume drama with an epic scope, and Fennell makes sure it's anything but stodgy."

On the flip side, several Wuthering Heights reviews are sharply negative. Marianna Neal from Impression Blend wrote, "It feels like a movie made for Tumblr posts." Keith Garlington from Keith & the Movies added, "Fennell’s new spin on Wuthering Heights is more in love with itself than with anything Emily BrontĂ« put to page in her highly regarded 1847 novel. Sadly, it results in a surprisingly hollow and frustratingly scattershot exercise in overindulgence."

Ultimately, the majority of the reviews portray the movie as being mediocre. For example, Hannah Lodge from Screen Rex noted, "Fennell’s bold reimagining of the source material might have worked with more cohesive character development, but as it stands, this adaptation is best appreciated as a visual feast rather than an emotionally satisfying story."

Film Feeder's Jack Martin echoed that sentiment. "Wuthering Heights can’t help but feel as though something is missing amidst the undeniable handsomeness of the production, something which gives it a soul beneath the gorgeous exterior."

Despite mixed reviews from critics, Wuthering Heights' success makes sense based on the responses from regular viewers. On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score stands at 85%, which is more than 20 points higher than the critics' score.

Weight-Loss Drugs Could Help Prevent Vision Loss, Study Suggests

New research suggests that weight-loss drugs can help prevent vision loss as patients age.

AMD Affects Almost 20 Million Americans

The new study, undertaken by researchers at Oregon Health & Science University and published by Jama Ophthalmology, suggests that GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic and Monjaro can reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in older American adults.

Over time, AMD damages the macula, which is the part of the retina which conveys central vision. As the condition progresses, people’s direct vision becomes severely compromised while their peripheral vision remains largely unaffected. Nearly 20 million American adults suffer from AMD, and about 80 percent of those are so-called “dry” cases caused when the macula thins with age, often the result of a buildup of yellow protein deposits, which are called drusen. “Wet” AMD is far more aggressive, causing severe and rapid loss of vision.

GLP-1 Drugs May Help Prevent the Condition

In order to determine how GLP-1 medications would affect AMD patients, the researchers monitored 91,000 participants over 10 years. All of the participants were over the age of 55 with no history of diabetes. Of this group, half were taking a GLP-1 for weight loss, and the other half were prescribed a non-GLP-1 weight loss drug.

After five years, the GLP-1 group had an 84 percent lower risk of developing dry AMD than the non-GLP-1 group. Even more impressive was that the risk appeared to decrease over time. After seven years, GLP-1 users expressed an 87 percent lower risk, while at 10 years the risk was lowered by 91 percent.

“We were quite surprised by the strength of the association between GLP-1 medication use and the lower risk of developing macular degeneration,” said Benjamin Young, a corresponding study author and an assistant professor of ophthalmology at OHSU Health in Portland, Oregon.

But There's a Major Caveat

However, GLP-1 medications did not appear to slow the progression of wet AMD. A separate study, published in June 2025, found that diabetic GLP-1 users were actually more likely to develop wet AMD after a year taking the medication. Young notes that the study only shows an association, rather than a cause-and-effect relationship, between GLP-1s and AMD.

“We can’t say that these medications directly caused the reduction in AMD risk. The findings suggest a possible link that should be tested in a randomized clinical trial,” Young said. But it’s possible that the reduced inflammation resulting from GLP-1s could potentially reduce the risk of AMD and other eye-related maladies. “We also recently published that GLP-1s might reduce the incidence of cataracts, which we also speculate may be related to reduced ocular [eye] inflammation,” he said.

At this time, Young cautioned physicians from taking any concrete advice from the study. “I don’t think this study should play any role in physicians recommending weight loss drugs to prevent macular degeneration,” he advised. “If a patient asks if it’s safe to take if they think they are at risk for macular degeneration, I think these results might help physicians suggest it is likely safe to take in that situation.”
