Two tourists were left dead when a tree suddenly fell in the famous Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary of Ubud, Bali this week.
According to Sky News, the incident occurred around noon on Tuesday in the popular tourist destination; a sanctuary that's home to about 1260 Balinese long-tailed macaque monkeys. Visitors are able to get up close and personal with the primates, as well as explore the sacred temples and statues in the forest.
Footage from CCTV cameras that have since surfaced on social media show the moment the tree came crashing down on the pathway, as branches and debris quickly piled up. At least a dozen people can be seen scattering just seconds before the tree fell. In a second video taken from another angle, people can be heard screaming out in terror, with one person exclaiming "what the f--k!" and another man calling for help.
The two tourists killed were reportedly from France and South Korea, respectively. A third tourist, also from South Korea, was said to have been injured and was taken to Kenak Medika Ubud Hospital for medical treatment.
Several staff members and tourists attempted to help the victims before police officers quickly arrived on the scene. Ubud Police Chief Commissioner Gusti Nyoman Subarsana was quoted by local media as saying that his team put an "immediate" evacuation of the park in place after the tragedy.
It's believed that heavy rains and strong winds that the Ubud District of Indonesia had recently experienced were likely a factor in the tree falling down.
