YouTube TV has been making some notable changes over the last few days. Some have been well-publicized, while others have largely flown under the radar.
In the latter category, YouTube TV "quietly" added several local channels to its channel options this week, giving viewers throughout the country the opportunity to access more personalized content.
YouTube TV adds several CW affiliates
On the YouTube TV subreddit Tuesday, an intrepid user noted that the service had added four local affiliates of The CW Network.
The four channels, along with the markets they serve, are as follows:
- WISH TV (Indianapolis)
- WBKO-DT3 (Bowling Green)
- KJCT-LP2 (Grand Junction)
- KYOU-DT4 (Ottumwa)
WISH had previously announced in October it had reached an agreement with YouTube TV and Hulu.
With the addition of these affiliates and others, YouTube TV now has complete coverage of every local CW channel.
What are these CW affiliates known for?
Luke Bouma of Cord Cutters News has a more complete breakdown on what these new channels have to offer their area audiences.
"[WISH] has been a staple for viewers in central Indiana, providing access to popular network shows and local events," Bouma writes. "Alongside it, WBKO-DT3 from Bowling Green, Kentucky, joins the lineup, offering content tailored to the south-central Kentucky audience, including weather updates and community-focused broadcasts.
"KJCT-LP2, based in Grand Junction, Colorado, brings western Colorado perspectives to the platform, emphasizing regional news and outdoor lifestyle features. Additionally, KYOU-DT4 from Ottumwa, Iowa, rounds out the additions, delivering content for southeast Iowa and northern Missouri residents, with a focus on agricultural reports and local sports."
What other channels has YouTube TV added recently?
According to Bouma, in addition to the four CW properties, YouTube TV also "incorporated a handful of other local stations on the same day, though specifics on those remain centered around niche markets."
"These updates reflect a strategic push to fill in underserved areas, ensuring that more users can stream their preferred local content without relying on traditional cable providers," he writes.
Last week, YouTube TV also began live streaming all three channels from the public affairs network C-SPAN--C-SPAN, C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN3--in all markets.
YouTube TV makes major announcement for 2026
On Wednesday, YouTube TV announced it will begin offering 10-genre specific packages, known as YouTube TV Plans, beginning in early 2026.
One of the options, which is sure to be popular, will be the YouTube TV Sports Plan.
"The Sports Plan will offer fans access to all the major broadcasters as well as sports networks like FS1, NBC Sports Network, all of the ESPN networks, as well as ESPN Unlimited," YouTube TV said in a blog post. "Subscribers can include add-ons like NFL Sunday Ticket and RedZone, and keep all fan-favorite features, including unlimited DVR, multiview, key plays, and fantasy view."
