Fleece has always been more about form than function—which is just fine by us. This year, though, pile fleece is everywhere. Walking around Manhattan on a frigid January day this winter, you can’t throw a snowball without hitting a guy in pile sherpa fleece. It’s the season’s hottest outerwear.
With a little snooping around, we found several killer pile fleece coats that were on sale—or just seriously cheap. Between big brand names like Sean John and Rag & Bone, traditional outerwear companies like Burton, and even some surprise entries from Coleman and UGG, we found quite a few high-pile grizzly sherpas we wouldn’t mind slipping into and snuggling up with.
