How Changing Sleep Schedule Can Help You Lose Weight?

Hello All!!!

Are you in search of an easy way to lose weight? Well, everybody is! So, let’s talk about a rather pain-free way of shedding kilos by following a regular sleep schedule. This post is based on the finding by the scientists at Brigham Young University.

The study involved 300 women between the age of 19 and 26. Their activities like moving around, waking up time and sleeping time were monitored with the help of their activity trackers.

What researchers found in the study?

  • Sleeping for less than 6.5 hours and more than 8.5 hours was found to be associated with more body fat.
  • Good sleep quality was linked with lower body fat whereas poor sleep quality was linked with higher amounts of fat.
  • It was observed that those who woke up and slept at fixed times had higher lower body fat.

Changing Sleep Schedule Can Help You Lose Weight – How?

  • Variation in sleep pattern effected the body weight.
  • A 90-minute variation in sleep patterns was associated with higher fat in the body as compared to those whose sleep variation was 60 mins or less.
  • It was also observed that those who slept for 8 to 8.5 hours a night had the least body fat.
  • A significant effect was seen on those women who woke up at a fixed time every morning for 7 days a week.

This concludes that Changing Sleep Schedule Can Help You Lose Weight!

The study does have some drawbacks and they are the following:

  • It was a study on a small scale
  • The duration was too short
  • The participants were only young and college-educated women
  • It was not a controlled or a blinded study

In fact this study was a follow up on the research which was about the connection between sleep quality/quantity and weight control. An older study found that overweight women between the age of 35 and 55, who were a part of weight loss program increased chances of weight loss by 33% by getting good quality sleep.

Though the exact effect of sleep schedules on body fat has been found by researchers, there are studies that reveal that sleep affects your appetite and hormones which control it. It also affects the body’s metabolism too. Studies say that depriving yourself of sleep increases the production of the hunger hormone ghrelin. This hormone controls your cravings for food. At the same time, there is a decrease in another hormone called leptin that signals the brain the your are full and thereby stops you from overeating. Now with an increase in ghrelin, you will crave more for food and with a decrease leptin, you just won’t know when to stop.

Sleep has more benefits than just weight loss. According to research, sleep helps in detoxifying the brain and helps in preventing neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia. Lack of sleep can lower your body’s immunity and also increase your chances of suffering a stroke.

So, it is important that you get good quality sleep.

We all know that exercising is important for your well being. Not exercising enough can harm your immunity, bring down your ability to fight stress and disrupt your circadian rhythm. On the other hand, going overboard with it can also be harmful to health.

Generally, it is recommended that you exercise for 20 to 30 minutes a day 4 times a week.

Tips on how to make the most of exercising,

1) Move less but more frequently

Tips on How To Make The Most Of Exercising

  • Try going in for bursts of movement. As soon as you wake up, do a high energy dancing for a minute.
  • Buy a stand up desk or a treadmill desk and use it every day.
  • While at the supermarket or attending a phone call, do heel lifts.
  • After going the bathroom do 12 push-ups.

The idea is to bring in pleasure in what you do. Start adding new movements to your routine every day.

2) Do burst-training

Tips on How To Make The Most Of Exercising

The body performs really well with burst-training. You can apply it to your cardio exercise or weight lifting. The other tips are:

  • Walk fast for 3 minutes and return to a normal pace for another 3 minutes.
  • Try running with 30s sprints.
  • Do HIIT with cardio or with weights.

3) Get a recovery drink after you do burst-training

Tips on How To Make The Most Of Exercising

Those who do burst training or vigorous exercise need to consume a recovery drink immediately after the workout.

  • Say NO to sugar as it isn’t good.
  • The best formula would be the one that has between 10 to 40 g of protein, 7 grams of carbs and 3 g of fat.

4) Sleep tight

Tips on How To Make The Most Of Exercising

  • To increase your energy levels and lose weight, you would need to go to sleep everyday at 10 pm and sleep for at least 7 to 8 hours a night.
  • If you cannot get enough sleep at night, try taking naps if you feel tired.

Sleep is important because it helps the body produce sufficient amounts of growth hormones and repairs itself. Sleep helps remove toxins and rejuvenates cells.

5) Make sure that you give time for recovery

Recovery refers to the body’s ability to repair the tissues that get damaged while exercising. It also includes rebuilding muscles, restoring the body to prevent any kind of injury and letting the body rejuvenate itself emotionally and psychologically.

Don’t get worried about the fact that you are not exercising regularly. You can still get on track.

  • It would be great if you choose an exercise that you enjoy a lot and which also makes you sweat. Do it four times week.
  • It is no surprise that exercise helps fight stress, makes you sleep well and helps raise endorphins or the happy hormones! Any kind of exercise will do wonders on your health, even something like walking.
  • Just try to make the first attempt and I am sure that there will be no regrets. Begin noticing your heart rate while at rest and during exercise. Also pay close attention to the difference in your body, weight and mood. You will definitely see improvements.

So, go ahead and start exercising.

2) Roast them with desi ghee or coconut oil

3) Roast them with natural spices such as mint leaves, curry leaves, turmeric powder, green chillies, coriander powder, garlic flavour and the like.

Remember to eat makhanas in moderation and have it as a mid-meal snack to handle untimely hunger. Always control portions. Don’t make makhanas a complete meal and go overboard because excess of everything is bad!

Aiming to lose weight by following a healthy diet is quite different from starving and losing weight. However, these days, people don’t want to play safe and are ready to go to every extreme just to get slim. They don’t realize that by following impractical diets and challenges, they are only harming their health. There are a lot of fad diets on the internet that are out rightly dangerous. One among them is the ‘Cinderella Weight Challenge’.

It sounds weird but those who take part in this challenge need to stick to a formula to calculate something called their ‘Cinderella weight’ and follow a diet plan that helps them reach that weight. All this is to be done to just look like a Disney princess. I wonder, how on earth can someone have such a petite waist?

Thanks to twitter, this weight loss challenge went viral in February 2018. Since Cinderella is a female Disney character, most women began accepting this so called weight loss challenge. The alarm bells were ringing in many countries but many people started trying out this challenge.

How is the Cinderella weight calculated?

There is a formula to calculate a person’s Cinderella weight. Your height needs to be converted into meters and then be multiplied with the same number. The resultant number needs to be multiplied with 18 and then you get your Cinderella weight. To make this calculation easier to comprehend, let’s consider someone with a height of 5 feet 3 inches. After calculation, the final Cinderella weight of the person should be 49 kgs. This is not right and quite dangerous.

It is being said that the diet trend started in Japan and has been spreading like wild fire on Twitter. On the micro-blogging site, a lot of people still are sharing their current weight as well as their ‘Cinderella weight’. However, this trend is rather risky and there are people who are advising against aspiring for such unrealistic body goals.

Time and again it has been pointed out that starving to lose weight is dangerous and not advisable. People should use their common sense and make the right decision because even the actress Lily James who played the part of Cinderella in the movie weighs more than the so called Cinderella weight.

There are so many diets that claim to make you lose weight rapidly but you must know which one is a healthy diet and which one a fad.

You need to remember….

  • Your weight loss goals have to be realistic and it is advised that you consult a qualified dietitian before you start any kind of diet regime.
  • Learn to first love your body and try becoming healthy instead of getting skinny.

Chris Hemsworth Shares First Look at the New ‘Men in Black'

Following their fantastic work together in Thor: Ragnarok, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson have reunited again for Men in Black 4. Hemsworth shared the first look at the new Men in Black film on his social media accounts, posting a photo from the set and a video featuring both Hemsworth and Thompson.

Thompson was cast in the film in March to star alongside Hemsworth, who showed off his comedic chops in Ghostbusters and Ragnarok. The new film is expected to take the MIB organization on a more global scale compared to the earlier films.

 

 

Here’s a look at Hemsworth and Thompson on the set:

F. Gary Gray is directing the film after working on Straight Outta Compton and The Fate of the Furious, while Liam Neeson and Kumail Nanjiani are also in the cast, although it has not been confirmed who they’ll be playing.

Emma Thompson is also in the new film, returning to the franchise as Agent O after appearing in Men in Black 3. While Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are not expected to return, the film isn’t going to completely ignore the world that was built over the first three movies.

Men in Black 4 is set for a May 17, 2019 release.

Dieting is what we all plan in order to control our swelling weight but just the thought of it fills us with a feeling of doubt, dread and instant images of feeling hungry or weak. We start cribbing about missing all our favourite foods. We feel sad that we have to control our taste buds while there are so many other people among our family and friends who despite of eating all the tasty and unhealthy food, don’t gain weight.
