Mindful Bathing – How To Go About It?

Mindful Bathing

Hello All!!

Wondering how to unwind at the end of a long and stressful day? There is nothing like a good soak when there are ten thousand things on your mind! For a restorative bath, you need at least 30 minutes from your schedule (you must). This will help you slow down and bath mindfully while engaging all your senses. (Keep reading even if you don’t have a bath tub, there a fix for that in the end!)

Here’s how to achieve the stillness:

Prepare for the mindful bathing ritual

You need to turn the washroom into a place filled with peace and stillness. Take out the clutter (usually laundry and other related stuff), dim the lighting or just switch off the lights and light scented candles. To the water in the bath tub, add herbs, salts, essential oils and dried flowers. Play soothing music, preferably the sound of chirping birds or that of flowing water. You are good to go!

Go ahead with the bath

As you immerse yourself in the bath tub, close your eyes and pay attention to your breathing. Keep it gentle to activate the relaxation process. Let the stress and strains of the day leave you with every exhale. Awaken your senses. Express your gratitude towards water which is important for your survival on this planet. This brings up a spiritual connection and brings the hope that you never get deprived of this life-giving element.

Apply any kind of body oil slowly to every part of your body with care and then give enough time to yourself to pat dry, dress up and emerge outside the bathroom.

Some more ways to make your bath even better

To turn your bathing routine into a spa-like experience, you can keep a glass of chilled lemonade or cucumber water along. You can also keep a cold towel sprayed with aromatic oils near you. You can pat it on your face and neck while having your soak. If you want to simply relax, go in for chamomile, lavender and sandalwood. For busting stress, you need to go in for rosemary, ginger and black pepper. If you want to get active and feel energized, go in for patchouli, grapefruit and juniper berry.

Remember to keep your towel, robe and slippers ready so that you need not run in search of them after your soak. This way your relaxed mood would linger on for long.

Don’t have a bath tub? No problem!

Even if you don’t have the luxury of a bath tub, you can still follow this relaxing bathing ritual. The only exception would be immersion. It is basically all about creating a sacred space, bringing back peace into your life, engaging senses, expressing your gratitude towards water and your body. It is a mind-body-soul connection!

So, a simple shower with warm water can be as relaxing as a soak. Go in for a moisturizing body scrub followed by a body polish. You can add in a few drops of essential oils to your bucket of bathing water.
