Author Joe Hill is back with some scary tales. Hill has a new collection of short stories out in Full Throttle, which includes two stories co-written with his father, master horror writer Stephen King.
One of the stories included in Full Throttle is “In The Tall Grass”, which was written with King and has already been made into a Netflix movie. That story follows siblings Becky and Cal as they try and save someone who is lost inside of a field of tall grass. What they end up finding is that they cannot escape the field and are being chased by a sinister force.
“In The Tall Grass” fits into what Hill was trying to do with his book: “Most of the stories in Full Throttle are horror stories, and I always view them as like going on a dark ride at a carnival,” Hill told Men’s Journal. “You’re spun through the darkness and all the fights leap out of you, and shock you and you scream halfway through the ride and then suddenly you’re ejected back out into the daylight, laughing. And I always hope a short story will give people that feeling.”
The GlenDronach distillery just dropped two new whiskies on the market, and though they’re as different as they can be, you’re gonna want to try both.
GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 8 and GlenDronach Master Vintage 1993 are both rare releases available this month. These two bottles are meant to showcase GlenDronach’s versatility: Cask Strength Batch 8 is a bold, youthful monster dram at 61 percent ABV, showing spices and dark roasty notes of coffee, cherry and pipe tobacco. And in contrast, the 26-plus-year-old 1993 Vintage is a restrained, fruit-forward dram at 48.2 percent ABV, showing more cocoa and nutty character.
Both whiskies are the result of careful blending of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, though 1993 benefitted from the use of some quarter casks—smaller vessels that increase the surface area of wood that the whisky is exposed to (and thereby increasing the impact of the wood on the overall flavor).
GlenDronach has not-so-quietly become one of the most renowned producers of sherry-casked single malts in all of Scotland. But while the distillery’s distinctive casks are its signature, its secret is the wielder of the pen: master blender Rachel Barrie. Barrie is one of the best minds (and palates) in Scotch whisky today. In the last year, she has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Edinburgh, and has been inducted into the esteemed Scotch society, the Keepers of the Quaich. Barrie is responsible for the daunting-but-successful relaunch of one of the most coveted bottles on the market today: GlenDronach 15 Revival. GlenDronach 15 was discontinued just before Barrie took her current position, and the task fell to her to remake the beloved whisky after three years off the market. The current version is, by all standards, better than ever.
With regards to this year’s final releases, you’d be advised to consider what sort of whisky you prefer: vibrant, loud, and youthful (Batch 8), or practiced, restrained, and refined (Vintage 1993). You’ll be best served going with both, of course, and enjoying the comparison. And with prices set at $95 for Batch 8 and $350 for Vintage 1993, that’s actually an affordable possibility.
The Jumanji crew is back for another adventure. The final trailer for Jumanji: The Next Level has been released, showing the wild new environments, animals, and bad guys that Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and company will need to escape to survive the game.
After destroying the Jumanji game in the previous film, the crew of kids goes back into the game after they find out that their friend Spencer (Alex Wolff) is lost inside. But this time around, they’re not the only ones who were sucked into the game: Spencer’s grandfather Eddie and his friend Milo Walker, played by Danny DeVito and Danny Glover, were also brought inside.
Adding to the fun of the movie this time around is that DeVito and Glover’s characters take on Johnson and Hart’s avatars in the game, giving them a slightly updated look from how they are in real life. Once inside the game, the group finds themselves pushed into a new quest that will take them to snowy worlds, a huge desert, and places within Jumanji they’ve never seen before.
Check out the trailer here:
Jumanji: The Next Level will be released on December 13.
Despite being in just his second season, New York Giants star Saquon Barkley has established himself as one of the NFL’s best players. As a rookie he led the entire league in total yards from scrimmage, and week after week he puts together electric plays, like when he stiff armed multiple players into the ground against the Detroit Lions.
The reason Barkley has been so explosive in the NFL is in large part due to his focus on fitness and training. Barkley has been a workout marvel since his college days—he set multiple weight room records at Penn State—and since turning pro he’s shown off his strength with his Instagramworkout videos. While lifting big weight is an important part of Barkley’s routine, something else that plays a major role is his use of tech-connected fitness gear and recovery gear.
“I think it’s so important as an athlete to have the data we can get now,” Barkley told Men’s Journal. “With connected tech, I can find out exactly how much I’m running, what areas I need to build more, and the gear is huge for recovery, too. I like to use the NormaTec boots a lot, they help me so much with soreness and making sure I’m feeling my best.”
Barkley recently partnered with Best Buy to help promote how people can use connected fitness and recovery gear in their training like he does. Barkley spoke with us about his favorite fitness gear to use, why connected workout tech is great for athletes, how he builds his legendary quads, and more.
What’s your favorite fitness gear and connected tech that you use in your training?
The NormaTech is probably my favorite, but I also like to use the Hyperice, which is great to use to get warmed up for your workout. When people see my workout videos and those 400-pound lifts, they don’t see the preparation in what I do before and after that to get my body ready. Sometimes the most important part of your preparation is within those 20 minutes you have before going into that workout. Manual therapy and massages are important too, but now you can have that recovery equipment right there when you need it.
How has using connected gear and data helped shape your training and recovery?
What I like is that the data you get can help you become a better athlete. We’re all competitors, so you want to be able to have every advantage you can. We have things like GPS trackers and body tracking gear that shows us exactly how fast we’re running and how many yards we ran in a day. It can tell you your exact workflow, your body mass, all that, and keep track of your progress. It also can help you see the areas where you need to keep working. That’s huge for me.
You’ve gotten a lot of attention for your quads. People call you “Sa-Quads” and they even were featured in a SportsCenter commercial. What are some of the ways you train your lower body?
Honestly, with my legs, a lot of it is God-given [laughs]. But overall, squats have been huge for me and are something I use a lot. The explosive lifts, like the power cleans and deadlifts, those are some of my favorites to do. I love working out in general. I’ve been doing more bodyweight workouts lately, and even in my offseason last year, I was doing CrossFit workouts, which is something I hadn’t done much before. All that helps my conditioning, and need that conditioning to play at a high level for four quarters.
How is your training different between offseason and in-season workouts?
The offseason is a major grind. During the offseason, you’re preparing your body to handle the wear-and-tear of a 16-game season, plus training camp, and everything in between. You have to get your body fit enough, in shape enough, and conditioned enough so that when the season comes, you don’t decline too much. For example, during the season we don’t max out in our lifts, but we still push hard to make sure we’re maintaining our strength and training at a high level.
What’s your advice for people out there about how they can train like you?
The advice is simple, but I’d say definitely take advantage of the fitness tech and equipment that’s out there. Now you actually can have that same equipment in your home in your home or basement gym that pro athletes have access to. So why not take advantage of that? The fitter the world is, the better. Take advantage, go grind and go get it.
Henry Cavill is ready to hunt down some monsters. A new trailer for Cavill’s upcoming Netflix series The Witcher has been released, showing off some of the impressive swordplay and action-packed moments from the show.
The series takes place on “the Continent” and evokes some Game of Thrones vibes with its fantasy-tinged world and medieval style characters, including Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia. The show follows Geralt as he hunts monsters across a dangerous landscape, eventually crossing paths with a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret. Cavill, the former Men’s Journal cover star, was a fan of the series before starring in the show, and now he’s the main star.
The series is based on the book series of the same name, which was also adapted into a video game series. The Game of Thrones-type connections don’t stop with the look of the show: Alik Sakharov, who directed multiple episodes of Game of Thrones, is directing four of the eight episodes in the first season of The Witcher.
Here’s a look at the new Witcher trailer:

“You are too ADHD”
“You are OCD”
“You are too controlling”
“You are intimidating”
“You are too distracted”
“You are too dumb”
“You are too ripped your look like a man”
“You are not fit enough”
“You are not smart enough”
These are only a FEW of the many “you are labels…” that I’ve been told and believed over the years.
When we accept what other people label us, we start BELIEVING IT about ourselves.
These become FALSE ASSUMED TRUTHS (FAT) which turn into SELF IMPOSED stops in our lives. These beliefs become detrimental road blocks.
Are you believing that you are:
Too old?
Too out shape?
Too late?
Too broke?
Too XYZ?
Any time you put a label on yourself you are putting a STOP to your dreams and what’s possible.
Self imposed stops give you a false sense of protection and comfort. You don’t take action to change it and you turn to the belief as the reason not to change. It’s like a security blanket with holes in it!
False assumed truths and self imposed stops can destroy your career, your relationships, your health and most importantly, your potential.
Identifying and losing the self imposed stops is the secret weapon to possibility.
How do you do this? There is a method.
1. Identify there “False Assumed Truths” you have been believing.
2. Recognize them for what they are… beliefs not facts.
3. Literally start interrupting yourself and creating a new thought pattern.
I have an entire simple process to help you take this on in my DIVE challenge. If you are in my aging in reverse community take the challenge.
If not, do not go another day stuck on these false assumed truths! Let’s shift then! Join me at Aging In Reverse Community and start the DIVE.
You are actually NOT TOO OLD AND IT IS NOT TOO LATE!
After starring in multiple movies together over the years, including the upcoming Jumanji sequel, Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson have built a deep friendship. Hart used that friendship as inspiration for his 2019 Halloween costume, dressing up as The Rock in one of his most recognizable—and meme-worthy—outfits.
Hart took inspiration from a classic photo of Johnson from the 90’s where he’s wearing a black turtleneck, a fanny pack, and a gold chain. Here’s a look at Hart’s final results:
Get ready to upgrade your bar cart game this fall. Dewar’s Blended Scotch Whisky has released its new Caribbean Smooth, an affordable rum-finished whisky designed for some creative cocktail options. The Caribbean Smooth is an 8-year-old bottle of blended Scotch finished for six months in Caribbean rum casks.
“We’ve blended up to 40 single malts and grain whiskies that have laid in casks for at least 8 years, double aged the blend to ensure our distinctive extra smooth Dewar’s profile, and then finished in ex-Caribbean Rum casks for a period of around 6 months,” said North American Dewar Vice President Brian Cox in a press release. “The rum casks were sourced straight from the Caribbean and brought to our ageing warehouses in Glasgow to be filled with our flavorful 8-year-old blend.”
Dewar’s hinted in its press materials that the rum cask exploration grew out of recently updated rules for Scotch that allow a more diverse range of casks to be employed in the “finishing” of whisky. Rum was allowed before these rules were updated over the summer—Balvenie, among others, has producedrum-finished whiskies for years. This is, however, a totally new direction for a long-strict blended whisky brand, and a welcome one—this whisky adds layers of brown sugar and candied fruits over the signature bright and slightly smokey Dewar’s profile.
And perhaps best of all, there’s more innovation on the way. Cox called Caribbean Smooth the “first in a series of double-aged cask finishes.” He went on to explain that Dewar’s will “continue to bring these new and exciting flavor profiles to a broader market in order to drive renewed interest in our brand, and thereby the whisky category.”
Caribbean Smooth is definitely a great option for a mixing whisky; it’s been making the rounds specifically as a highball option called the Coconut Highball, which is a light, refreshing alternative to the traditional whiskey highball. For $22, it’s an easy way to keep a unique and simple cocktail option on your home bar—because not everyone wants to unwind by following a 17-step recipe for an after-work drink.
Check out the highball recipe below, courtesy of Dewar’s:
Caribbean Highball
1 ½ parts Dewar’s Caribbean Smooth
½ part Lemon Juice
½ part Coconut Syrup
3 parts Soda Water
Garnish: Lime wheel and mint sprig
Method: Add whisky, lemon juice, and syrup to chilled highball glass, filled with cubed ice, add soda, stir ingredients from the bottom upwards to mix thoroughly, and garnish with slapped mint sprig and lime wheel.

Seeing as some of the latest films in the Terminator franchise have suffered mixed reviews and reactions, the stakes were high to make the sixth film a smashing success. That’s why Hollywood turned to director Tim Miller—the man behindDeadpool. As a fan of theTerminatorfranchise himself, Miller knew what he was stepping in to when he took onTerminator: Dark Fate.
“I think there’s something wrong with me in that I don’t feel pressure,” Miller tells Men’s Journal. “I see it as an opportunity. It’s a huge responsibility, but when I take something on, I feel it’ll turn out okay because I want it to. Maybe at the age of 50, now I feel comfortable in an environment where I can work with people who are really talented and really help me when I make mistakes.”
The new Terminator movie is a sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day, taking place two decades after the film (and subsequently ignoring the three flicks that came before it). Linda Hamilton returns as the iconic Sarah Connor, who teams up with a human-hybrid named Grace (Mackenzie Davis) to protect a young girl (Natalia Reyes) from being hunted down by an advanced Terminator Rev-9 model played by Gabriel Luna. Eventually, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 is brought back into the fold as well.
Like every Terminator film, Dark Fate has some large-scale action sequences, including a bridge fight early in the film and an aerial plane battle toward the climax. Miller’s experience on the set of Deadpool with Ryan Reynolds served him well in creating those scenes, as did his years of working on major blockbuster productions at Blur Studio, his very own visual effects company.
“My secret to creating great action sequences? Hire very talented stunt coordinators,” Miller says with a laugh. “That’s absolutely key. We had my stunt coordinator from Deadpool, and he was fantastic. To create the action for this film, first we decided on what these set pieces would be early on: the bridge fight, the big plane crash, and the fight in the turbine hall. The script was being written the same time we were planning these massive action sequences.”
Miller’s process incorporates a lot of pre-visual conception, where he extensively plans out what he’ll do using motion capture and computer-generated graphics.
“I went through and wrote out all the action scenes in detail in a bullet-point format,” Miller says. “I write where it all happens and try to visualize it in my mind. Then I’ll give that to the writers for character beats and the stunt guys so they can figure out how we’re going to do it—whether it’ll be computer graphics or practical effects. Then we move into extensive pre-visualization—putting the stunt guys in motion capture to plot it all out. We did six weeks of that for all the action scenes, then moved on to actually shooting them. We loved how they came out and everyone worked their assess off.”
Part of the fun for Miller was getting to work with legends like Schwarzenegger and Hamilton.
“It was terrific,” Miller says. “I couldn’t have been luckier. These actors know their characters so well. I never once got the impression that Arnold or Linda were difficult to work with. It was a very familial feel between the cast and everyone on the set. I’m so beholden to having a good atmosphere, with no tension or strife, and this cast was perfect for that.”
Terminator: Dark Fate hits theaters on November 1.
Whether it’s trail riding or commuting, electric motorcycles are becoming more capable. Case in point: the Kalk&, built by the Swedish company Cake. Designed for on- and off-road use, this fully electric motorcycle is tuned for a thrilling ride wherever you take it. Plus, its electric powertrain is super quiet and better for the environment than a traditional gas-powered engine. We recently sat down with Zach Clayton, Cake’s North American brand manager, to learn more about what makes the Kalk& (pronounced “Kalk-and”) so exciting. In his view, the initial appeal of these bikes boils down to three simple facts.
“They’re light, they’re clean, and they’re quiet,” he told Men’s Journal.
But that’s just the start. The bike weighs just 160 pounds, and although it tops out at 60 mph, the 10-kilowatt electric motor is especially torquey, so it can get going in a hurry. With its quick acceleration, light frame, and all-terrain tires, the bike is just as nimble in traffic as it is on the trail.
“What’s fun about the bike is how good it is in different environments,” Clayton said.
It’s also ideal for wheelies, if that’s your thing.
Could this be your new bike? If you’re looking for a high-performance, environmentally friendly set of wheels, it’s hard to beat that Kalk&. Check out the video above to learn more about the bike and watch our full conversation with Clayton.

The world of Breaking Bad returned for another chapter in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie on Netflix. Now, fans of the show can go behind-the-scenes to see just how the film was secretly made in the new 13-minute documentary, The Road to El Camino.
Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan wrote and directed the film, which followed Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman character in the aftermath of his escape from captivity and how he evaded the police. Gilligan brought together numerous former Breaking Bad characters for the movie, including Pinkman’s friends Skinny Pete (Charles Baker) and Badger (Matt Jones), as well as other characters we won’t mention so not to spoil the surprise.
With Breaking Bad having been such a popular TV series, it was a major challenge for Gilligan and the crew to make the movie without people finding out. Amazingly, Gilligan was able to finish the movie before any news came out about its existence. The documentary shows off some of the ways the production handled that, including by making sure the cast stayed quiet and by distorting and blocking filming from public view while working in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the show and film were set.
Here’s the new documentary, The Road to El Camino:

Update: Nearly two months after Kevin Hart’s harrowing car accident, the actor/comedianposted a video on Instagramdepicting his recovery process. Hart says, “Sometimes you can’t see the things that you’re meant to see. But after my accident, I see things differently. I see life from a whole new perspective. My appreciation for life is through the roof.” Hart thanks his family, friends, and fans for getting him through recovery and for continuing to help him heal, and he makes clear that if he has to slow his career to focus on getting better, he’s willing to do that.
Following a car accident over Labor Day weekend, numerous actors and entertainers have come out to show support on social media for Kevin Hart. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, after the car Hart was in “rolled over and landed in a ditch,” causing him to suffer “major back injuries,” according to Us Weekly.
Hart was driving with producer Jared Black and personal trainer Rebecca Broxterman in the car, and all three were hospitalized from the accident. Us Weekly reported that Black was driving the car when he “lost control.” And while the other two passengers were stuck inside the car, Hart was able to leave “the scene to his nearby residence to get medical attention.” Later, Hart was admitted to Northridge Hospital Medical Center for his injuries.
Hart is currently recuperating from surgery from the accident, and many stars took to Instagram and Twitter to send the actor and comedian their best wishes.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who has co-starred with Hart in numerous films like Jumanji, Central Intelligence, and Hobbs & Shaw, posted a photo on social media of the two working on Jumanji with the message: “Stop messing with my emotions brother @kevinhart4real. We have a lot more laughing to do together. Love you man. Stay strong.”
Others include Jamie Foxx, Terry Crews, David Beckham, Bryan Cranston (who co-starred with Hart in The Upside), Ice T, Marlon Wayans, Arsenio Hall, and Justin Bieber.
HBO is back in the Game of Thrones business with a new prequel titled House of the Dragon. After previously filming a pilot for a different Game of Thrones prequel with Naomi Watts and deciding not to move forward on the series, HBO has given an official series order to the new show, the network announced.
The new series will follow the recent history of House Targaryen and family members of Daenerys Targaryen, who was played by Emilia Clarke on the original Game of Thrones series. The prequel is co-created by GoT author George R.R. Martin and former Colony producer Ryan Condal, while veteran GoT director Miguel Sapochnik will be behind the camera for the pilot.

“The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys said at an event unveiling HBO Max, the WarnerMedia’s new streaming service. “We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan and George.”
Here’s everything you need to know about the new Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon.
The Book It’s Based On: The show will take inspiration and stories from Martin’s book Fire & Blood, which details the history of House Targaryen and the battles fought against and between the family as they came over to Westeros.
The First Season: The show received a full series order from HBO, meaning it’s officially set for a full first season, unlike the Naomi Watts-led Game of Thrones prequel, which shot a pilot and was not picked up to series by HBO. House of the Dragon will have a 10-episode first season, which is the same amount of episodes Thrones had in each of its first six seasons.
The Time Period: The show is expected to be set around 300 years before the timeline of the original Game of Thrones series, and it’s possible there will be some flashbacks to periods before that as well. As of now, it appears that the series won’t delve into the time period of the original Game of Thrones show.
The Potential Stories and Characters: Martin’s Fire & Blood is filled with plenty of stories, battles, wars, and dramatic moments from Targaryen history—and it’s likely the show will follow a number of those storylines. Some potential options include the Targaryen family civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons, Aegon the Conqueror ascending to the Iron Throne of Westeros, and how dragons first came to Westeros.
The Crew: Martin and Condal partnered on creating the series, and Condal will serve as the showrunner and writer of the show. Martin previously wrote episodes of Game of Thrones, and it’s possible down the line he could work on scripts for the show.
The Director:Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik will direct the pilot of House of the Dragon and will also be a co-showrunner of the series with Condal. Sapochnik directed multiple large-scale battle episodes of Thrones, including Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards, and The Long Night in the final season of the show.
