Try these 7 yoga poses for fertility

1) Bee breath or Bhramari Pranayam

If you want to get relief from stress, you should do the Bhramari Pranayam. Studies say that psychological stress is a big reason behind infertility.

With the bee breath, your body gets calmed down and you become free of stress, worry or anxiety. When your mind is calm, the chances of conceiving are higher.

2) Seated Forward Fold or Paschimottanasana

The Paschimottanasana yoga pose is also called the seated forward bend and it helps in exercising your lower back, hamstrings and hip region. With the help of this asana, the uterus and the ovaries get vitalized which are the main organs responsible for conception. The yoga pose is also known to help in improving your psychological state.

3) Reclining Bound Angle or Supta Baddha Konasana

By doing this asana, your inner thigh muscles as well as your groin muscles get exercised. It is helpful in relieving stress along with reducing menstrual cramps, the symptoms you face due to IVF and a medicated fertility cycle.

4) Shoulder stand or Sarvangasana

The shoulder stand is an asana that helps in stimulating the thyroid gland. Your thyroid dysfunction can be the reason for your infertility. The shoulder stand or Sarvangasana helps in calming your mind down and relieving stress.

5) Legs up the wall or Viparita Karani

The Viparita Karani asana is quite effective in helping you conceive. All, you have to do is lie down on your back and raise your legs up against the wall. You have to hold this position for a period of 15 to 20 minutes.

6) Cobra Pose or Bhujangasana

One of the best asanas to help improve your fertility is the cobra pose. This asana helps in increasing the flow of blood to the uterus and ovaries. A hormonal balance is created and the chances of conception increase.

7) Supported bridge pose or Setu Bandhasana

The Setu Bandhasana is quite helpful in opening up your pelvic region and expanding it. The thyroid gland gets stimulated as the pose increases the flow of blood to it and thereby enhances its function. This particular asana also helps in treating fatigue, anxiety, stress, and depression.

A lot of people these days are suffering from cardiovascular diseases, and it is pretty saddening. This clearly indicates that our food choices and lifestyle is not right. So, most people are getting more conscious about heart health and are always on the lookout for ways to promote it.

When it comes to food, oil is one of the most essential components that can’t be avoided. Hence, it is better to learn more about the different kinds of cooking oils available.

Mustard oil or sarson ka tel has been an integral part of our Indian culture. It is being used since ages to cook all kinds of foods. Our previous generation used to do most of their cooking in the good old sarson ka tel. Now, there is another kind of oil that is being used widely by most of us and that is refined oil. It is processed to meet the needs of the consumer. Choosing a cooking oil that is really good for health is getting difficult with every passing day.

Is Mustard Oil Healthier Than Refined Oil?

Mustard oil, as you must be aware, is derived from mustard seeds. The oil is slightly pungent and is dark yellow in colour. It contains healthy fats that don’t get accumulated in the blood vessels. The oil is also rich in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and is known to reduce the levels of cholesterol. Mustard oil contains an antimicrobial ingredient called Glucosinolate. It is known to protect you from infections.

All this sounds too good, doesn’t it? Now let’s learn a tad about refined oils.

What is refined oil? Is it beneficial?

Natural oils that are processed in order to get rid of impurities, odour and contaminants are called refined oils. They are treated chemically to give the oil a clearer appearance and also meet the needs of the consumers. Though the health benefits of refined oil are not well documented, it is known that they are treated to cater to specific consumers and that is why you are able to find refined oils for heart patients.

There is also something called filtered oil. This oil is only filtered to eliminate the impurities. There is no chemical processing done in this particular oil. This makes filtered oil better than its refined counterpart.

Downside of consuming mustard oil

In spite of the fact that mustard oil is considered to a healthy cooking oil, researchers say that the heavy consumption of mustard oil can cause diarrhea or anemia as it has a heavy amount of erucic acid. Additionally, the oil is known to lead to Rhinitis and skin eruptions. Therefore, consume the oil in moderation to avoid the undesired side effects.

Downside of consuming refined oil

The harmful effects of refined oils are way more than those of mustard oil. Since refined oil is chemically treated, it is quite harmful. The refining process makes use of nickel which has very harmful effects on the skin, respiratory system and the liver. During the processing of refined oil, certain preservatives and sodium chloride are added. This causes harm to the digestive system.

Final verdict

Stick to mustard oil as in spite of certain issues, it is way better than consuming refined oil.

You may not be aware of the fact that the human body is a natural fat-burning machine. However, due to consuming junk packaged foods, we have turned towards sugar and carbs for energy.

Having a junk snack makes your blood sugar to shoot up and that releases insulin. Too much of insulin not only increases body fat but also stops you from burning the existing one. Over a longer time period, this can lead to obesity, Alzheimer’s, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

You need to say not to snacks and give intermittent fasting (IF) a try. IF will retrain your body to use stored body fat for energy. A lot of people have lost weight, gained muscle mass and have seen an increase in their energy levels with the help of IF.

IF is all about giving your body what it requires at the right time. Basically, you are going to consume two filling meals during the day. How to start IF?

1) Decide which meal to skip

You need to decide which meal of the day you are about to skip. It can be breakfast or dinner. Whatever you choose, you need to stick to your decision. Your choice depends on what suits your lifestyle.

2) Have a schedule

Even though you are skipping a meal, it is important that you eat the other two meals at the same time of the day. Suppose you are skipping breakfast but have lunch at 1 pm and dinner at 8 pm, you need to stick to those meal timings.

3) Fast every other day

As a beginner, follow a fasting plan 4 days a week and you can have an optional snack between those 2 meals. 3 days a week, you need to eat 3 meals and not consume any snacks. As you start getting the hang of IF, you can fast more.

4) Cheating is not allowed

When you fast, you should be consuming only water, black tea or black coffee. Try postponing your cup of coffee till you can’t wait any longer. This is because caffeine brings your appetite down.

How fasting connects you with your body?

You do a 16-hour long fast by skipping one meal. However, you need to focus on eating when you are hungry and not when your watch tells you. This shift in focus can make a huge difference. Fasting is more of a way of life instead of short-term attempts to lose weight.

How IF will change your life?

Fasting everyday will make you feel full of energy. You can enjoy eating out with friends and not have to deprive or restrict eating the foods you like. Intermittent fasting will help you lose weight effortlessly and maintain it. To make your lifestyle change become a part of your life, it needs to be flexible and this is why you should try intermittent fasting. With IF you start listening to what your body says. You might wake up tired and hungry some mornings and it is absolutely fine. On such days, you need to eat your breakfast and not feel guilty about it.

With IF, you can follow any eating style, be it vegan, pescatarian or vegetarian! Moreover, IF helps you have better levels of energy and an improved health. So, go ahead and make intermittent fasting a part of your life.

One kitchen appliance that sits pretty in every Indian kitchen is the microwave oven. It is convenient and helps re-heat last night’s food in a jiffy. Right from heating milk to making maggi noodles, the microwave is a part and parcel of the life of an average busy Indian and life is difficult without one! At least that what it looks like on the exterior! It helps match the steps of your fast paced life. Every dingy looking bakery too keeps one these days to heat the puffs, savouries and samosas it sells. Where there is food there is a microwave oven!

What you must note is that all this convenience has some hidden facts behind it. Scientists have found that when you cook food in a microwave, the nutrients get depleted and the nutritional value of the food gets diminished. Due to the high radiation used to cook or heat the food, the food molecules get deformed and as a result harmful radioactive compounds get created.

Working of microwave ovens

It is very convenient to heat up food in a minute by pressing the start button. However, let’s have a close look at what happens after you push the start button of the microwave oven. As soon as the button is pressed, tiny, energetic waves begin to move inside the microwave oven. Electromagnetic radiation gets released with the waves vibrating at 2.5 Giga Hertz per minute. Non-ionising radiation gets released per minute and is known to be carcinogenic in nature or in simple terms cancer causing.

Health risks involved

Research has been carried out and it says that microwave ovens weaken an individual’s immune system and as mentioned above, can cause cancer. The food quality also gets degenerated. In some people there can be an increase in blood sugar levels.

The following are the Health Risks Of Using Microwave Ovens,

1) Insomnia

Microwaved food can cause a lot of damage to the brain. It can affect your sleep pattern and lead to insomnia. This is a very common health problem of the modern age.

2) Cancer

Non-iodising radiation produced by microwave ovens is cancer causing. And there can be nothing more deadly than that.

The other main issue is that the food cooked or reheated in the microwave loses its nutrients and this means the real nutrients of the food are not reaching you! So, there is no point in painstakingly cooking a meal.

You can still use microwave ovens…

This article by no means says that you should not use a microwave. All you need to is to use it correctly. Use it when it is in the right condition and cook/reheat food in a microwave-safe utensil. Here’s what all you need to follow:

  • Don’t use the microwave to heat or cook foods meant for children.
  • Cook veggies in a microwave instead of heating snacks and processed meats.
  • Don’t heat water or any other liquid in a microwave.

So, limit the use and try hard to use it right!
