A 1989 Power Ballad Quietly Became One of the Most Emotional No. 1 Hits Ever

In 1989, a soaring power ballad from one of rock's biggest bands ever reached No. 1 on the charts. At the time, Bon Jovi's "I'll Be There for You" stood out for its emotional delivery and memorable lyrics. Decades later, it still draws listeners in as one of the most emotional tracks to ever dominate the charts.

How the Song Reached No. 1 in 1989

Originally released 37 years ago, on April 4, 1989, Bon Jovi's "I'll Be There for You" quickly grew into one of the band's signature hits. The track reached No. 1 a little over a month later on May 13, and stayed on the chart for 22 weeks in total.

The track stands out as one of only four Bon Jovi singles to ever reach No. 1. "You Give Love A Bad Name" topped the chart for a week, "Bad Medicine" was No. 1 for two weeks, and "Livin' On A Prayer" became the band's biggest hit as it spent four weeks dominating the charts. That means that the song was more successful than other hits by the band that fell short of hitting No. 1, including "Wanted Dead Or Alive," "It's My Life," and "Always," among others.

Why This Power Ballad Still Resonates Decades Later

In an era when many songs feel like they were carefully crafted like a math equation, tracks with genuine emotion can stand out. The fact that "I'll Be There for You" was written by Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora about a painful breakup with someone he loved, as he told Fuze TV, gives the track a lot of emotional heft.

“One girl that I was completely in love with left me, and that was ‘I’ll Be There for You.’ ‘I guess this time you’re really leaving, I heard your suitcase say goodbye.’ … So it was actually borne out of an experience that I was living.”

Jon Bon Jovi's highly emotive vocal delivery on the track beautifully brought Sambora's lyrics to life in a way that listeners have connected with for decades now. The way the legendary rock performer sang with vulnerability and passion, combined with the song's lyrics, explains why it is still celebrated today.

"I'll Be There for You" continues to appear on roundups of the greatest power ballads in music history. Some examples of that include lists by Ultimate Classic Rock, the radio station Q 105.7, and Sirius XM, among others. One of those rankings was published as recently as 2025, which speaks to the track's lasting appeal.

Dan Hurley's Wife Caught Attention With Behavior After Elite Eight Victory Over Duke

The Final Four of the men's NCAA Tournament tips off later tonight as UConn and Illinois get the party started before Arizona and Michigan square off in a battle of the lone remaining No. 1 seeds.

UConn is attempting to become the first program since John Wooden's UCLA teams to win three NCAA titles in four year span. Wooden's teams won 10 titles in a 12 years span, so Dan Hurley has plenty of work to do, but he has the support of more than just his players and coaching staff.

In a stunning Elite Eight victory over Duke thanks to a last-second three-pointer from Braylon Mullins, Hurley's wife, Andrea, stole the attention. She immediately attempted to get the players back to the bench safely in an effort to avoid a technical foul, which could be called if the bench rushes onto the court.

Dan Hurley Praised His Wife's Reaction

During a podcast appearance after the game, Hurley revealed she's the boss.

“Yeah, and she knows nothing,” he joked. "Yeah, she’s a boss. She’s the Jersey boss lady. And her language is colorful, too. I mean, she was grabbing people around the back of their warmups."

He admitted his wife doesn't know much about basketball, but she knew to get everyone back to their seats.

"And she doesn’t know anything about basketball, you know?" he said. "I said to her on the plane, ‘This is wild. Three out of four years, you’re going to the Final Four. Did you ever imagine this with your life?’ And she’s like, ‘I didn’t even know Final Four existed until four years ago.”

Andrea Hurley Revealed Her Favorite Part of Life in Basketball

While she admitted the basketball life is stressful on the whole family, she loves the opportunity to be there for the players – and even bake cupcakes on their birthdays.

“The players are honestly my favorite part. They’re other people’s kids, and they are away from home, so they need to know that someone is there for them,” she said.

She revealed on Mother's Day, “I get texts from all the previous players and I’m literally crying all day because it’s so insane that these kids think to text you.”

UConn and Illinois tip off at 6:09 p.m. ET. The game can be found on TBS, truTV and HBO Max.

Foreign Court Rules Netflix Price Hikes Illegal — What It Means for Americans

An Italian court has ruled that several years of Netflix's price increases in that country were illegal. The decision comes at a time when American subscribers are already frustrated with their own recent price increases. Here is what the court ruled and what it means for American subscribers.

What the Foreign Court Actually Ruled About Netflix Prices

In April 2026, Euronews reported on a legal ruling that had gone against Netflix Italia. The Court of Rome upheld an injunction against the company over unilateral price increases following an action brought by the consumer group, Movimento Consumatori.

The judge determined that clauses in Netflix's user agreement between 2017 and January 2024 in the country were unfair and abusive. According to the ruling, the agreement lacked a reason to justify raising how much they charge, which it deemed renders those clauses null and void. The court specifically found that price increases made in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2024 violated Italy's consumer code for that reason.

Euronews' report on the news revealed that Netflix immediately released a statement defending its price increases and pledging to appeal the ruling. "We will appeal the decision. At Netflix, our subscribers come first. We take consumers' rights very seriously and we believe that our conditions have always been in line with Italian regulations and practices."

If the company loses its appeal, it could be required to issue refunds to affected Italian customers. In that case, subscribers of the premium plan throughout the relevant time period would be owed roughly €500, while standard plan users would receive a roughly €250 refund.

What the Ruling Means for American Netflix Customers

Netflix's recent price increases in America angered many of its customers. While some might hope for a similar outcome as what happened in Italy to happen here, laws in the United States make that highly unlikely. In fact, the Italian ruling could play a small role in pushing Netflix to raise prices for Americans in the future.

A 2025 legal paper written for a Virginia State Bar writing competition detailed that under U.S. law, companies can make unilateral changes to user agreements. The main requirements to do so are that the original contract allows it and that customers receive reasonable notice before the change takes effect.

"Setting aside a few outliers, courts have articulated that substantial unilateral contract alterations are permissible as long as some form of notification is provided... In Asmus v. Pacific Bell, the Supreme Court of California weighed in on unilateral modification, taking the stance that it would be permitted so long as reasonable notice was given."

Netflix's user agreement, which every American subscriber must accept, contains the following verbiage that allows the company to raise prices and details how much notice they have to provide. "We may change our subscription plans and the price of our service from time to time. We will notify you at least one month before any price changes or changes to your subscription plan will become effective."

Because of that clause and the advanced notice Netflix provided customers with, the recent price increases in America are almost certainly allowed. Therefore, the Italian court ruling should have no legal effect on the company's customers in the United States.

It is possible that the recent ruling could influence Netflix's future pricing decisions in America. If the company loses its appeal in Italy and its profits decrease, it may seek to make up the difference elsewhere. That could push it to consider charging Americans more than it otherwise might. Still, the effect in that scenario is likely to be small. Companies like Netflix generally make pricing decisions based on what they believe the market will bear without driving away too many customers.

Pro Runners Share the 2 Simple Training Habits That Make Long Runs Feel Easier

If signing up for a half or full marathon somehow ended up on your bingo card this year, you’ve probably already taken a glimpse at your full training plan and made a mental note of the long runs. The idea of stacking mile after mile can surely elicit a sense of impending doom, especially if this is your first rodeo. But long runs don't have to be the most miserable workout of your week. In fact, it can actually become the very thing that makes race day feel manageable.

We spoke with pro runners fresh off the United Airlines NYC Half, produced by New York Road Runners, and their advice was refreshingly simple. The biggest improvements don't necessarily come from fancy equipment or whatever's blowing up on #RunTok. Rather, it's all about showing up consistently and building mileage as the weeks go on.

Stay Consistent

"Consistency made the biggest difference in my half-marathon time, but that's kind of the sport in general," says Alex Maier, winner of the 2025 USA Half Marathon Championships. "There are days when even I don't want to get up, get out there, and get after it. But you've got to do it. You've got to live long term and build those habits."

The concept of consistency doesn't make for a sexy headline, but there’s something to be said about doing the same things over and over again if you actually want to move the needle forward. Most of us expect to see results right here, right now. When that doesn't happen, it’s easy to throw in the towel, especially in a sport as humbling as running.

Daniel Romanchuk, who won the men’s wheelchair division at the race, agreed with that same sentiment. When he made the move from his home state of Maryland to train with a group out of the University of Illinois, consistency became non-negotiable. He had to show up to training when the coach said so.

For recreational runners without a coach or structured team, that responsibility falls on you. Joining a local run club, syncing schedules with a fellow runner, or simply committing to a standing weekly run helps build the accountability most people need to stay consistent.

Accumulate More Miles

For Rory Linkletter, the second fastest Canadian marathoner ever, the biggest improvements in his half-marathon performance came down to one thing: accumulating more miles each week. Long runs are important, but it’s everything around them that really adds up. The extra miles you log in your Strava bank during the week are what help build your engine.

Running more days per week, even at slower, conversational paces, helps build up your aerobic capacity, improve endurance, and strengthen your body’s ability to handle the demands of race day.

Huckberry's Sharp Yet Casual Blazer Is Over 60% Off in 3 Colors

Men’s Journal aims to feature only the best products and services.  If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Why We Love This Deal

Retro-inspired style has been on the books for a handful of years, but fuel has been added to the fire by FX's new Love Story series about John F. Kennedy Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly) and Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon). The series explores the couple's high-profile romance, but what many guys are taking away from it is a newfound appreciation for JFK Jr.'s unique style. His look can be centered around a great blazer, and right now, Huckberry has the perfect one on sale for an astronomical 64% off.

The Wills Rosedale Linen Classic Patch Pocket Suit Jacket is on sale for only $127 right now, which is over $200 off the normal price, and it comes in three colors. While you may know Huckberry best for its Flint and Tinder house brand, its Wills line is another big hit that's more in tune with this type of roughed-up preppy aesthetic, providing what Huckberry calls “elevated everyday wear.”

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Sizes Available: From 36 to 46
  • Color Options: Navy, tan, and dark brown
  • Fabric: 56% linen and 44% cotton body with 100% viscose lining
  • Best Use Case: This is a lightweight blazer with high breathability and style that can make a man look sharp without appearing full of himself.

If you only have time to learn three things about the fit of this blazer, let these three be them. First, this jacket is intentionally designed through its partially canvas stitching to conform to your shape over time, not unlike a leather jacket. Second, it uses what’s known as a natural shoulder style, signaling a relaxed and approachable presence over a corporate board feel—totally on-brand for somebody like JFK Jr. Third, the key seams are all internal for easy access during tailoring.

This jacket is going to look fantastic over a standard undershirt or a charming sweater layer. If you’re wearing it outdoors in the summer, a thing the breathable blazer is basically begging you to do, don’t forget the sharp sunglasses. For pants, a matching navy will do.

One thing to remember about this blazer is that, though it is casual, it still needs to be treated with respect. Between lapels, buttons, and natural venting, this one should be dry-cleaned and hung dry. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.

The Wills Rosedale Linen Classic Patch Pocket Suit Jacket is over 60% off right now, which is a monumental deal for a piece like this at Huckberry. Grab one while you still can—these will be sold out soon. And while you're at it, we'd suggest pairing it up with these to really complete that laid-back, Ivy League look.

Ahead of the ‘Michael’ Cinema Release, Netflix Streams Michael Jackson’s First Movie

As expected, fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the release of one of the most-buzzed-about movies of the spring, Michael. Not only does the biopic cover the life of the “undisputed” King of Pop, Michael Jackson, but it is also stacked with actors Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, and MJ’s own nephew, Jaafar Jackson. Additionally, it was directed by Antoine Fuqua, who is best known for his brilliant work on Training Day and The Equalizer. Now, only time will tell if Michael proves to be a box office hit and a biopic ranking among the greats like Ray, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Walk the Line, but Netflix has timely added the real Michael Jackson’s first feature film to its streaming lineup on April 1.

In 1978, Jackson joined legends Diana Ross, Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross, Lena Horne, and Richard Pryor in an onscreen musical that may not have done blockbuster numbers in theaters, but has become a classic for countless movie-watchers.

‘The Wiz’ Starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross Is Now on Netflix

A twist on the iconic The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz puts an updated spin and adds a new perspective to the original story, with newer songs to boot. As described by the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, here is the official synopsis of the film:

“This beloved Motown musical version of L. Frank Baum’s classic fantasy book is an adaptation of the popular Tony Award–winning stage musical that originated on Broadway in 1975. Noted for its lively score and all-Black cast, director Sidney Lumet’s film features a stellar array of iconic entertainers, including Diana Ross as Dorothy (reconceived for the film as a shy Harlem school teacher), Michael Jackson as Scarecrow, Lena Horne as Glinda, and Richard Pryor as The Wiz. Embraced by generations, The Wiz was nominated for its art direction, cinematography, costume design, and adapted score at the 51st Oscars.”

Although The Wiz predates me, watching it as a kid, I recall fond memories. I thought Michael Jackson did a solid job for someone whose career is really grounded in music, not acting.

‘Michael’ Debuts in Theaters on April 24

Michael hits theaters on April 24. If you’re interested in purchasing tickets, you may do so now by visiting the website of your local theater or purchasing through Fandango.

Gone Girl: Woman Escapes Police Car While In Cuffs

In a daring escape, a woman in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, who was handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser, narrowly wriggled out of the backseat. The video was captured by a local ABC affiliate before police noticed what was happening. Somehow, the window was down. Like a caterpillar, she scrunched her way out the window and out of the car in an impressive feat.

The Sweet Escape

Kendra Aney, 38, landed on her feet and ran behind the vehicle. The police officers were busy investigating a nearby white truck and didn’t notice that she was gone until she was down the road and around the corner. No telling what she did when she got to her location without the keys to the cuffs.

Criminal

Aney is on parole for a drug charge and went missing in January. She was re-arrested on Saturday when she escaped, but was found in an abandoned home on Tuesday and sent back to jail, according to a local Michigan station.

This Pressure Washing Mistake Can Ruin Your Concrete Fast

Pressure washing is one of the best ways to clean concrete. But as with most pressure washer jobs, there’s a right way to do it and wrong way. Concrete may seem indestructible, but use the wrong nozzle or wrong technique when cleaning your concrete driveway and walks and you may end up doing significant damage to it.

Related: Pressure Washing vs. Soft Washing: Which is Safer for Your Home?

Using Too Much Pressure

Whether you’re using a pressure washer to clean your driveway, home, or car, using the right nozzle and technique is crucial. Using the wrong nozzle will leave your concrete with striping patterns, a rough uneven texture, and streaks.  When that happens, repairing it is very difficult.

Why This Happens

There are two main reasons why pressure washing etches concrete:

  • Narrow spray tip: Many people use a zero degree nozzle to get max pressure for blasting away grime and mildew. The problem with that approach is that the narrow spray tip creates a stream of water that’s so powerful that it can actually cut into the concrete.
  • Holding the wand too close: As with the spray tip, holding the wand close to the concrete seems like a good way to remove stubborn stains. Holding the wand too close to the concrete concentrates all of that pressure in one place, which can etch, crack, or chip the concrete.
  • Moving too slowly: When pressure washing concrete, or any other surface, it’s important to keep the wand moving over the surface area. Lingering on any one area can cause the high pressure water to eat into the concrete.

Why It’s a Major Problem

Etched concrete isn’t just aesthetic damage, it can also cause structural problems. Once you've etched the concrete, you’ve broken through the seal that’s on top of it. With that seal broken, water can penetrate deeper into the concrete, breaking it down more quickly. The damage also makes the porous concrete more susceptible to dirt and stains.

How to Pressure Wash Concrete the Right Way

You can avoid damaging your concrete while cleaning it by following these three rules:

Use a wide spray tip

A wide spray tip will deliver less pressure in a focused area, making it safer for your concrete. Use a spray tip that’s between 25 degrees and 40 degrees, which reduces the risk of damaging the concrete. Spray a small inconspicuous area of the concrete first to test your settings.

Maintain a Safe Distance

Resist the urge to put the tip close to the concrete to take out stubborn stains. Hold the wand about 10 to 12 inches from the concrete surface to prevent applying focused pressure on the one part of the concrete.

Related: This is the Best Time to Pressure Wash Your Home

Keep it Moving

Don’t keep the tip of the wand aimed at the same spot. Keep the wand moving at all times over the area. Make smooth even passes to prevent streaking.

A Better Concrete Cleaning Option

A more effective, safer, and less time consuming option for cleaning broad areas of concrete is to use a surface cleaner attachment. These tools attach to your pressure washer and use high pressure rotating jets that clean the concrete surface without damaging it. Since they cover a broad 15-inch wide area, they clean without leaving streaks, giving you much better results than a pressure washer wand.

Wait For This To Happen Before Spraying Your Lawn for Weeds

If weeds are already showing up in your lawn, you may think it’s a good time to grab the post emergent weed killers. Stay your hand. Timing is everything when applying selective weed killing products to avoid doing more harm than good, especially when we’re this early into the growing season. Applying a post emergent weed killer before it’s time not only stresses out your lawn but can also make your weed problem worse.

Related: Your Neighbor’s Lawn Is Green—Yours Isn’t. Here’s Why

What Post Emergent Weed Killer Does

Just as it sounds, post emergent weed killer is for killing weeds that have already germinated and sprouted. These are the weeds that either got past your preemergent treatment or started growing before you had a chance to apply preemergent. It’s important to note that a post-emergent herbicide will not prevent weeds. Its only function is to kill those existing weeds.

Applying Post Emergent Too Early

The biggest mistake many homeowners make is applying post emergent as soon as they see weeds popping up in their yard. The problem is, doing so can actually hurt your grass. Even though post emergent is a selective herbicide, meaning it won’t harm grass, your grass is just coming out of dormancy in the spring. That means it isn’t equipped to handle the stress of a post emergent treatment.

Related: Don’t Aerate Your Lawn This Spring—Here’s Why

When to Apply Post Emergent

You need to check off a few boxes before its safe to apply post emergent for your lawn:

Grass is actively growing

Your lawn should be a bright green through the entire lawn and it should be growing consistently. This is a sign that it has fully awoken and the entire lawn is out of dormancy

You’ve Mowed Two to Four Times

A good benchmark that your lawn is fully awake, strong, and ready to handle the stress of a weed killing treatment is that you’ve mowed it several times.

Temperatures have stabilized

Temperatures tend to fluctuate a lot in the spring. It can flirt with 70 degrees Fahrenheit one day then drop below freezing the next. Don’t add a post emergent herbicide until temperatures are consistently above freezing and all threat of frost has passed.

Weeds are Actively Growing

A post emergent treatment isn’t going to do much for your lawn if there aren’t any weeds growing in it. Wait until you see weed activity in your yard before applying a post-emergent otherwise you're wasting your time and money by applying this herbicide too early.

Don’t Wait Too Long

Timing is crucial when it comes to applying for a post emergent. While you don’t want to apply it too early, you also don’t want to wait too long. Post emergent has its limitations. If you allow weeds to mature, it will have a harder time killing them off.

Getty Images.

What To Do Now

If it’s too early to apply a post-emergent, don’t worry. You can still take action:

  • Spot treat: You don’t have to watch those weeds grow while you’re waiting for your lawn to get strong enough to handle a post emergent treatment. Spot treat those weeds by putting a selective weed killer in a handheld pump sprayer.
  • Apply preemergent: Just because some weeds have sprouted doesn’t mean all the weed seed has. Go ahead and apply preemergent if you haven’t already. This won’t take care of those existing weeds, but it will prevent more from growing while you’re waiting for your lawn to wake up.

How to Apply Post Emergent

  • Avoid Mowing: Time your post emergent treatment for a couple of days after you mow and don’t mow for at least a couple of days afterward. Your lawn will need to recover from the post emergent treatment, so it doesn’t need the added stress of mowing.
  • Don’t Water Immediately: Post emergent needs about 24 hours to work its magic and kill weeds. During this time do not water your lawn, or you’ll wash the post emergent off. Likewise, avoid applying it when rain is in the immediate forecast.

Urgent Red Flag Weather Warnings Announced for 13 States Due to Fire Threat, 40 mph Winds

The National Weather Service announced that parts of 13 states were under so-called "red flag" warnings on March 28.

You can see a map of the states here. "Unseasonably warm temperatures continue through the weekend across the Southwest and southern U.S., with more than 100 record or near record maximum temperatures forecast through the rest of the week and over the weekend," the National Weather Service wrote. "Elevated to critical fire weather conditions will persist across the Plains and Southeast U.S. this weekend."

The NWS added: "Fire weather concerns will prevail across the Plains and Southeast for Saturday" March 28.

The National Weather Service Wrote That There Are 'Favorable Conditions for Fire Spread'

According to the NWS, the "numerous Red Flag Warnings are in effect across the Central Plains and the Southeast for Saturday. Winds are expected to gust into the 25-40 mph range for areas in a Red Flag Warning atop low relative humidities in a post-frontal air mass."

"This will promote favorable conditions for fire spread and burning should try to be avoided," the weather service advised.

Among the states affected are parts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. A red flag warning and burn ban were also issued for Tallahassee, Florida. "This warning applies to Inland Gulf, Leon, Inland Jefferson, Inland Wakulla and Southern Liberty counties," wrote Tallahassee.com.

Much of Minnesota was also under a red flag warning on March 28 due to "dangerous fire conditions," Fox 9 reported. "A red flag warning means any fire that does start could spread quickly and grow out of control. Outdoor burning is not recommended," the station reported. The Twin Cities metropolitan area was also under the warning. The State of Alabama was also issued a fire warning.

"A very dry airmass will move into the Deep South tomorrow; humidity levels will be in the 20-25 percent range, and north winds will gust to 30 mph at times. No outdoor burning tomorrow," ABC3340.com reported, noting that Mississippi was also under the red flag warning.

What Is a Red Flag Warning?

Red flag warnings are only released after a careful assessment of multiple condition reports, including wind speed and humidity.

According to NWS, "Red Flag Warnings alert fire managers on federal lands to conditions that are highly unfavorable for prescribed burns and that may lead to especially dangerous wildfire growth."

Added the weather service, "A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior."

"The warning was issued due to an extreme risk of wildfires in the region this weekend. Weather conditions, which include very dry air and gusty winds, are perfect for wildfires to develop," added WBTV.

"A Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service when weather and fuel conditions are favorable for rapid wildfire growth and extreme fire behavior," explained ABC3340.com.

There’s a 15-inch laptop area around the main compartment. On the side, you’ll get a water bottle compartment that actually wraps around the top of the water bottle, too, making fallouts much less likely than the netted bottle holders commonly seen on backpack sides. What Shoppers Are Saying

One shopper described everyday use of the Arcane quite perfectly: “Not only does it look extremely aesthetic, this thing will convert from a lightweight school bag to an all-day-expedition workhouse by simply rolling more or less.” Like most roll top backpacks, rolling this bag open more gives you a ton of space to work with.

Another shopper described it as being perfect for treks of a different nature, commuting to work in downtown Seattle. They said they favored the backpack for the “pockets for organization inside,” and noted that “my things stayed dry, even with a downpour.”

The Osprey Arcane 22-Liter Roll Top Backpack is down to $37 after the combined deals available as part of Nordstrom Rack’s Clear the Rack Sale, going on now through March 29.

The Milwaukee M12 Redlithium 2.0Ah Compact Battery is now just $30 and ships free from Walmart. To put things into perspective, this same battery is $69 at The Home Depot and Zoro, and it's pushing $90 at Grainger.

What Shoppers Are Saying

What are people using this battery with? One surprising thing you’ll see repeated is that people love using it with the Milwaukee heated jacket. Another, less surprising comment, stated that “one battery lasted through several demanding jobs I had in my shop.”

There’s always a question when you see a price like this as to the battery’s authenticity. One shopper weighed in with a confident review. They said, “Appears to be a genuine product, and is the proper, improved version listed, not the older versions others send. Works well in daily use in our auto repair shop.” The battery is being sold by Mass Depot, a Missouri-based reseller that specializes in Milwaukee tool sales and has earned more than 1,200 five-star ratings.

76ers Superstar Paul George Offers Explanation for Banned Substance Suspension

76ers forward Paul George has finally commented on the 25-game suspension he received after failing a drug test due to taking a banned substance.

Following his suspension earlier this year, the NBA veteran held a press conference where he addressed the situation. He explained that his decision to take a banned substance was motivated by a desire to recover from a knee injury sustained in the offseason and to cope with the resulting mental health challenges.

“At the moment, I didn’t know the repercussions,” he explained. “It was just a poorly timed decision.”

He continued: "Being a pro athlete takes a toll on you. My body wasn't where I wanted it to be. The expectations to perform because of my body not being where it needed to be, obviously, I'm going to have an expectation for myself. That's what led to a poor decision at the time."

Paul George Gives Details About His Suspension

The 35-year-old lamented that he’s “no superhero” and that he’s “human,” and “made a mistake in that moment,” but he said the 25-game suspension allowed his body to heal.

“I’m in a much better place physically,” George explained. “I’ve been feeling great and feeling awesome on the court, so I’m looking forward to putting it to the test now.”

The 76ers, who are currently in seventh place in the East, face a major test over their next 10 games as George attempts to secure them a playoff spot.

The NBA All-Star opened the press conference by apologizing to the City of Philadelphia, his family, and his teammates for his actions.

“To let people down hurt more than anything going through this process,” he explained. But shoutout to the guys for having my back and supporting me through this time to where now, things are on the positive side, looking to tomorrow and being available and giving it everything I got.”

Suspension Cuts Season Short

George's season with the 76ers was cut short after he was suspended on January 31, 2026, for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy. Before the suspension, he played 27 games, averaging 16 points per game. His start to the season had already been delayed by 12 games while he recuperated from arthroscopic surgery on a left knee injury sustained during a summer workout.

This recent injury is one of several body issues he's dealt with in recent seasons, which have included a right knee sprain and a bone bruise.

Drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 2010, George also had stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers before signing a four-year, $212 million max contract as a free agent with the 76ers in July 2024.

Throughout his 15-year NBA career, he has achieved nine All-Star selections, six All-NBA selections, and has been named to four NBA All-Defensive Teams.

This Is Hands Down the Quickest Way to Fix Arch Pain for Men Over 40, According to a Podiatrist

Arch pain is one of those painful issues that seemingly pops up out of nowhere. One day, you're walking pain-free and the next, you're dealing with a sharp, pulling, or burning sensation in the space between the heel and the ball of the foot. While it might just seem like an annoyance at first, when left unchecked, it can lead to fatigue during workouts and even knee, hip, or lower back pain.

Luckily, arch pain is not a life sentence you’re stuck with it. The right support—whether shoes, insoles, or orthotics—can go a long way in taking pressure off your arches and getting you moving comfortably again, according to Sonia Erickson, DPM, podiatrist at Bay Area Foot Care.

"Arch supports can neutralize the forces of the foot and prevent excessive motion," Erickson says. "They can also slow deformities from getting worse, alleviate pressure areas, and prevent injuries or stress fractures."

When it comes to footwear, some brands are notorious for their built-in support. Sneakers like the HOKA Bondi, Brooks Ghost Max, and Skechers Arch Fit are designed with comfort and stability in mind, making them solid starting points for arches needing some extra love.

Over-the-counter insoles also allow for an easy upgrade. Options from brands like Dr. Scholl’s, Tread Labs, and SOLE can add support to any pair of shoes, often providing noticeable relief from the jump. But for men with severe arch pain, custom orthotics are the best bet. They're designed specifically for your feet, typically based on a scan or mold taken by a podiatrist.

"Orthotics are separated into high arch/supination and low arch/pronation," Erickson adds. "If over-the-counter insoles are not comfortable, or there is a painful area of the foot that is not resolving, you may need more specific support, like a custom orthotic."

It’s also worth looking at what’s contributing to your arch pain in the first place. Sudden increases in training volume, overworn shoes, and long hours spent on your feet can all place extra strain on the arch. In many cases, combining supportive footwear with simple fixes, like stretching and foot strengthening, can go a long way.

Air Canada Crash Audio Captures Controller's Tragic Admission: 'I Messed Up'

The transcript and audio from the Air Canada plane crash capture an air traffic controller at LaGuardia airport admitting, "I messed up."

CTV News published the full transcript from the audio, which went viral on social media. In it, a second controller said, “Man, that wasn’t good to watch.”

The Air Canada jet crashed into a fire truck that was responding to a different incident, a scene captured in a horrific video.

"Yeah, I know. I was here," the first air traffic controller, who has not been identified, responded. "I tried to reach out to my staff. And we were dealing with an emergency earlier. I messed up.”

“No man, you did the best you could," the first air traffic controller said.

The Air Traffic Controller Told the Fire Truck to 'Stop, Truck One, Stop'

A damaged Port Authority fire truck sits near the runway after colliding with an Air Canada Express CRJ-900 at LaGuardia Airport in New York, on March 23, 2026. A plane carrying dozens of people collided with a fire truck on a runway at New York's LaGuardia airport, killing the pilot and co-pilot and causing "serious injuries" to others, authorities said Monday. Due to the crash late Sunday, US aviation authorities halted all flights at LaGuardia, and the port authority said the airport would stay shut until at least 2:00 pm (1800 GMT) "to allow for a thorough investigation."

(Photo by TIMOTHY A. CLARY / AFP via Getty Images)

The frantic audio also captures communications between the air traffic controller, and the driver of the fire truck.

"Truck one and company, LaGuardia Tower. Requesting to cross four at Delta," the fire truck driver said.

Truck one and company, cross four at Delta," the air traffic controller said.

“Truck one and company crossing four at Delta," the driver added.

The controller said: “Frontier 4195, stop there please. (Pause.) Stop, stop, stop, truck one, stop, stop, stop. Stop, truck one, stop! Stop, truck one, stop."

And then: "Jazz 646. Jazz 646, I see you collided with vehicle. (Inaudible) Hold position. I know he can’t move. Vehicles are responding to you now.“

The 2 Pilots Were Killed in the Tragic Crash

According to NBC News, both the pilot and the co-pilot were killed in the crash, and 41 people were injured and taken to hospitals.

Of those, 32 people had been released by early afternoon on March 23, the day after the deadly incident.

According to NBC, the plane was a Jazz Aviation flight "operated on behalf of Air Canada. The plane was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members." The fire truck was responding to a report of an odor on a different plane.

"Air Canada Express Flight 8646 struck an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting vehicle after landing on Runway 4 at LaGuardia Airport in New York," the Federal Aviation Administration wrote in a statement.

"The accident occurred around 11:45 p.m. local time on Sunday, March 22. The CRJ-900 was arriving from Montreal. The FAA and NTSB will investigate. The NTSB is in charge of the investigation and will provide all updates."

The Transportation Secretary wrote on X, "Last night, an Air Canada Express CRJ-900 operating from Montreal (YUL) and a Port Authority fire truck at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) collided at about 11:45 p.m. ET."

He added, "Of the 72 Air Canada Express passengers and 4 crew members, over a dozen are injured. Tragically, both pilots of the aircraft have passed away. At least 2 Port Authority firefighters sustained serious injuries. LaGuardia remains closed until 2pm while the NTSB investigates the accident site."

A GI Doctor Says You’re Probably Ignoring This Bathroom Red Flag

Everyone’s bathroom routine is different. What’s normal for you may not be normal for someone else.

"On The Checkup" podcast with board-certified Dr. Mike, he interviewed a gastrointestinal doctor, Trisha Pasricha, MD a professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, who sees patients at Beth Israel Deaconess, about how your bathroom habits affect others' part of your health. She studies the mind-gut connection professionally and also sees patients in her clinic. Dr. Pasricha is a medical journalist too and recently authored “You’ve Been Pooping All Wrong.”

What’s a Normal Poop Schedule?

Photo by StefaNikolic on Getty Images

There’s a lot of nuance in how often you should go, but Dr. Pasricha said it can range from once per day to three times per day to every three days. It really depends on your diet, how much fiber you're getting, and your water intake.

How Long is Too Long On the Toilet?

Dr. Pasricha says if you are taking more than five minutes to poop, you might be at risk for hemorrhoids, which are inflamed veins. If you’re sitting on the toilet watching TikTok videos and lose track of time, you might want to limit your screen time. If you sit long enough to lose feeling in your legs, and you get pins and needles, that’s too long, too.

Speaking of TikTok, are Probiotics Good for IBS?

Photo by lixu on Getty Images

TikTok influencers are touting massage and probiotics for stomach issues, but most doctors want you to use something based in scientific evidence. Dr. Mike also calls out doctors who sell products and supplements.

Well, these tactics may help some people, but the most effective treatment for GI issues is an increase in something very boring: fiber. The key to adding fiber to your diet is to go very slowly. Adding in more fruit throughout the day, snacking on raw veggies, and drinking a lot of water go along way. But if you introduce a large amount of fiber to your diet suddenly, you may experience pain, gas, and bloating.

Should I Look in the Toilet Bowl After I Go?

Yes. Dr. Pasricha says you should be aware of what’s normal for you. What you leave in the toilet, ideally, should be the shape of a banana if you’re optimizing your gut health.

Is Blood on the Toilet Paper Normal?

Hmmm, probably not. If you have hemorrhoids from straining, you might see a little spec of blood on the toilet paper, but no matter what, get checked out by a doctor, who may refer you to a GI specialist. Blood in the stool can be an indicator of colon cancer and with the uptick in diagnoses in younger men, it’s important to know what’s causing any unusual symptoms you may have.
